  • Comments Thread For: Lederman wants Mayweather-Maidana in Yankees Stadium

You can understand Harold Lederman’s bias — he’s a New York native. But HBO’s longtime ringside scorer also has other reasons for wishing that Floyd Mayweather’s upcoming fight with Marcos Maidana would land in Yankees Stadium.

Lederman caught up briefly with BoxingScene.com on Feb. 28.

BoxingScene.com: What do you think about Floyd Mayweather choosing to fight Marcos Maidana instead of Amir Khan?

Lederman: “Obviously, Maidana’s the tougher guy. You can’t take it away from him. Sensational performance against Adrien Broner. He took it right to Adrien Broner, who you know, we all considered one of the really best up-and-coming fighters in the world. Adrien Broner not only talked a good fight, he fought a good fight. And he had that welterweight title, and Maidana came along and beat him up.

I wish that this fight could happen at Yankee stadium, but Xylocain is illegal in NY, so you won't be seeing any NY fights or any non-Las Vegas fights ever happening.

I think he was meaning essentially one punch stopped Khan, because after that punch landed Khan's punch resistance as well as his balance was pretty much gone.

It'll look a bit odd if as soon as Vegas bans TRT, Floyd decides to fight elsewhere for the first time since 2005. Could just be rumours at this point though, this is the first I've heard of the fight being in NY.

lederman is always sounding like he's recovering from a hangover & NO bout should b in the stadium....I was there when Norton "won" in'76 vs ali, 25 rows bk in ringside & could not c nothing....stadiums are terrible venues xcept 4 the promoters...

Most insiders think the fight will be in Vegas(I hope so)but the only thing about Barclays is that is around the time of 1st rd of the playoffs and the Nets could be playing a game around that time.

Well you ain't been payin attention then. They been talking about Floyd fightin at the Barclays for a year now. Floyd talks about fighting in the UK from time to time too. Stop bein an ambulance chaser bro. If Floyd was using TRT & needed to go somewhere that allowed it he would go to NJ not NY.
