  • Is Virgil Hunter the only trainer who can teach both Offense/Defense styles?

Virgil knows how to teach pressure fighting and slick boxing, I don't know many trainers who can do both, usually they are either defensive minded or offensive minded.

I know every train teaches the basics of defense, and offense but some of them will favor one over the other.

Roger Mayweather offensive minded, Floyd sr. defensive minded, Roach offensive minded, Goosen offensive minded, and so on and so forth.

Virgil pretty much is the only trainer I know who can train either style.

Hunter can also teach fighters how to stiffen their chin.

He is doing a lousy job with Khan in the two fights Khan has had with Hunter as his trainer. Maybe Ward is making Hunter look good. He is training Angulo now so let's see how Angulo does against Canelo. Any trainer worth a damn should be able to teach both offense and defense. If they can't do that then a fighter needs two trainers. One trainer to teach him offense and another trainer to teach him defense. Roach's fighters seem to have both good offensive and defensive skills. Good fighters like Cotto hire Roach for this reason. I am sure Hunter is a good trainer but I think there are better trainers than him and that would include Roach, Garcia and Nacho.

It takes time to correct mistakes and hard for an old dog to learn new tricks.

Khan's 3rd fight with Virgil will show his real progress. Khan is an offensive minded fighter so with Roach he blossomed quick. With Virgil hes becoming more economical rather than his usual "ush ush ush and get out" so its taking time.

Hunter is like a psychologist without the degree. His camp is filled with dudes breaking out into tears and dudes all coming off or losses of who are in the process of rebuilding their careers.

Classic and funny but your right. With the exception of Ward the 3 fighters that Virgil trains all have a track record for horrible defenese. Depending on how all 3 look in their next TV appearances will determine or at least indicate how well of a trainer Virgil Hill really is.

Too teach guys in their mid 20's to 30's new skills is a daunting task but I think Angulo and Khan will benefit the most. I think Berto is too far gone, he's been a millionaire since his first televised appearance on HBO for a guy we don't even remember.

No, he isn't. What a strange thing to say.

The 3rd fight will show if there has been any progress the Molina and Diaz fights did not impress. My gut feeling is Khan has not improved much and is on the slide and this is supported by his lack of willingness to fight while hanging around for Mayweather.
Ward is a great fighter but how much this is down to Ward and how much to Hunter? The more I see of Hunter the less I trust his abilities. His Svengali mystery man act is wearing a bit thin and his little talks in between rounds come over as creepy and weird.
