Exactly and it's a freaking LAW in this country that's called the (Self Identity) law that basically states that you can claim whatever you want but the hook here is now we have a thing called DNA that tells the real story of who you are and if you have Native American DNA. Which 60% of Puerto Rican's do and then you can say your ***ing Native to the America's and nobody can say **** to you..PRPP

And this has no application to the subject of Boxing and does absolutely nothing to change the fact that native Puerto Ricans will support one of their own over an east coast born and raised Puerto Rican. Garcia can call himself whatever he wants but he will not get treated the same by native Puerto Rican islanders as one of their own. He was not born there, he is not a part of their lifestyle, their heritage, their culture. If he ever fights Dulorme or Verdejo, it would become very obvious who they would support! Not a difficult concept to grasp.

YOU are the one who DOES NOT KNOW ****! it is NOT shallow for someone to support a fighter from their own neighborhood over a fighter from across the seas! I will make it simple for you, again, no one is saying Garcia is not Puerto Rican but he will NEVER be fully embraced by native Puerto Ricans as one of their own for SIMPLE reasons that are not difficult concepts to grasp, really! He was not born and even partially raised in their culture, lived their lifestyle, nor made connections to the island! They will NEVER give their whole hearts to Garcia. They will support him CONDITIONALLY, not UNCONDITIONALLY! Case-in-point: The minute he signs to fight a native Puerto Rican fighter, that moment the ink dries, he becomes the enemy, the opponent, the unwanted!

It has to do with being an integral part of their (the Islander's) culture and he is not. Case-in-point #2. Dulorme is half Puerto Rican which is less than Garcia. Who do you think the native Puerto Rican's would support if Dulorme managed to become an opponent? Or Verjejo? Not Garcia! Dulorme and Verdejo ARE a part of the Puerto Rican Culture on the island. It is neither right not wrong, it just is what it is. Garcia will get UNCONDITIONAL support from back east and CONDITIONAL support from the Island! And the antithesis is also true. If Verdejo was to fight in Philly against Garcia some day, the local born and raised Puerto Ricans from the Philly area would support Garcia more than Verdejo or Dulorme for that matter. It comes down to CULTURE!! The really dumb thing that Garcia is doing is he is looking for something that he will NOT get a flight distance away, it has been right in his own neighborhood the whole time, UNCONDITIONAL support! If he wants THAT type of support, all he has to do is get on a plane, fly around the world, land back in his hometown, home state, get off the plane, and it will be right where he started from, right under his nose the whole time! He hasn't figured out that GBP is doing this next fight only for the money in hopes of drumming up new support/business but Garcia will not find what he is looking for over there in a genuine unconditional way, it is not possible!

This is the SAME EXACT dynamic as Oscar vs Chavez! Sure anyone can say "Isn't Oscar Mexican?, so why would folks south of the border not support him?". That is not how it works! They supported him RIGHT UP to the point before he signed to fight native Mexican, Chavez and then the folks south of the border pulled for Chavez and turned their backs on Oscar. They offered Oscar CONDITIONAL support and JCC UNCONDITIONAL SUPPORT. It is like a card came, unconditional beats out conditional. This is THE WAY IT IS! Get it? Got it? GOOD! Now go get a clue if you have to beg, borrow, or steal one!!!

The thing with him is that he makes a lot of sweeping generalizations. A lot. Much of it isn't really fact. Some of it I think is true, but most of what he's saying is just assumptions based on his own perspective / his own opinion. It's a real debatable thing.

Wrong! Go read the articles from the Oscar/Chavez fight from back then. EVERYONE knows who the Mexicans from south of the border not only pulled for but TO THIS DAY, they DESPISE Oscar beating their national hero. This is not up for debate, it is a FACT! Your examples are not good ones. Chavez was a hero and came before Oscar. Even if they were both born and raised, more people will cheer for the older hero rather than the new one. If Cotto fought Garcia, by default, more people will cheer for Cotto because Cotto is not only more popular than Garcia, but came before him. More people will root for the King, rather than the Prince.

I hear what you're saying, but you've gone beyond the point. The whole point of the topic wasn't really about local vs. not-local, it was more about Garcia being Puerto Rican or not, and accepted as such. Not whether he's more PR than a native, that's a crazy argument. Of course, a native is more PR.

And I hear what you're saying in terms of support. I just wasn't feeling your examples, the Camacho Trinidad one was much better.
