Comments Thread For: Cermeno, Former WBA Champ, Kidnapped and Killed

The World Boxing Association is deeply mourning the death of former champion Antonio Cermeno, which occurred early today in Venezuela. According to reports, in the early hours of this morning he was found dead on the banks of the Caucagua-Higuerote highway. Cermeno had been kidnapped in the evening hours yesterday near the hotel Makro La Urbina, where he lodged with his family.

The information released so far is that Cermeno was the victim of a kidnapping that ended in murder.

Cermeno was born on March 6, 1969 in Río Chico. He was the WBA champion after beating Puerto Rican fighter Wilfredo Vazquez in Puerto Rico on May 13, 1995. He held the super bantamweight belt and held it until 1997. He then reigned at featherweight from 1998 to 1999.

Jesus...what the fuck is going on over in Venezuela? It's crazy over there, like in Ukraine. No one is safe.

            RIP Tony.

Yep. The truth will come out years from now.

They failed a coup in 2002 to overthrow Hugo Chavez and now that he's dead it's open season, free money from the USA to any opposition.

I wish the truth came out, I feel for the American public living a life of lies about how their country has there best interest in mind when clearly sooner or later they are going to be barking up the wrong tree.

Damn, that's terrible to hear. From the videos I watched of him, he appeared like a pretty solid fighter. Shame that senseless violence like this occurs far too often in a world that's supposedly more advanced and sophisticated than ever.

Slightly off topic, when I first saw that headline, I thought it was Nehomar Cermeno that this happened to and was like, "Wow, that's terrible. I wonder what past prime/crappy fighter Scott Quigg is going to fight now
