Why is Kovalev fighting club-level fighter like Cedric Agnew???

I don't understand why Kovalev/HBO are getting a pass on this mismatch.

The supposed best light heavyweight in the world taking on a guy who hasn't fought in nearly a year?

Not to mention the fact that almost one-third of Agnew's wins (8 of 26) have come against guys with 25 OR MORE LOSSES.

He even fought a guy with 60+ losses TWICE.

Agnew has the thinnest resume I've seen for a title challenger/HBO main event fighter in a loonnnggg time.

All fighters say this and feel this way leading into a fight.

I have yet to hear a fighter say, "this guy will kick my ass, but I'll try my best".

Who do you propose he fights? That's what I don't get with most of these threads. Now please list off a bunch impossible fights that can't happen.

Stevenson has made it clear he doesn't want none yet. The recently article I read made it clear that Kovalev struggled to pick an opponent just to stay busy. We should be happy he is fighting and not taking 6 months off a time like so many fighters seem to being moving toward.

I guess it is just the best fighter available. Kinda disappointing. Most of the top 10 light heavies have already been beaten by Kovalev or Stevenson.

Excellent post. Not much else to add really.

You're comparing Cedric Agnew to Floyd Mayweather? That's comical.

Cedric Agnew doesn't even deserve to be called a journeyman. His record is filled with bums with 15, 25, even 60+ losses. It's a farce.

I just watched an Agnew fight and I didn't see any Mayweather similarities. I can't see him giving Kovalev any issues at all.

It's not that bad. A year ago Stevenson had a similar record, plus a stoppage loss. Kovalev didn't have a better resume before Campillo either.

Who would you like to see instead? Another chance for Murat or Bellew or Cloud?

                    Agnew called Kovalev "ordinary".

Kovalev's gonna put this fool to sleep in under 4 rounds.
