  • Why is Danny Garcia fighting a journeyman Mauricio Herrera?

There's LOTS of good boxers at 140 and 147 to choose from, many interesting matchups that good be made for Danny Garcia.

So why is the light welterweight champion fighting a journeyman Mauricio Herrera?

Show case fight in Puerto Rico to help build an audience and support there. I imagine he also in the running for the Mayweather fight in September so they don't want a challenging fight before that.

          One?

Old Judah, old Morales twice and now this.

Herrera's past two wins came over fighters who have 8 losses and 10 losses. In his two fights before that, he lost to Karim Mayfield who was 16-0 and to Mike Alvarado. Herrera is age 33 and has never fought for a title before.

Why? He had a fight with a shot-to-**** Judah, bizarrely rematched Morales, and comfortably outboxed a one-eyed fighter.

I like Danny, he's a good fighter, but this is a rubbish match up.

He gets a pass because he took on who most thought (including me) was going to absolutely destroy him. That was a very tough fight for him even though he got the W. He deserves a softer fight before taking on another physically taxing one.

Plus, they are trying to showcase him for the PR market so they better not take any risks while trying to sell him over there.

It's a stay busy fight after he just destroyed "the machine" Judah wasn't shot when he fought Danny. He was at least top 10 at 140. Morales had a rematch clause and khan was still a top guy at 140. He has a better resume than most and was supposed to lose his last few fights. Don't get why everyone is complaining

This is an experiment to see what kind of crowd he can draw in Puerto Rico. They don't want to waste a big fight for him only to have it flop in Puerto Rico when it could have generated much more in Vegas, NY or Atlantic City.
