If that happens, it's all over.

The ambulance chasers will kill the sport.
People break into other people's houses, steal their stuff, get shot by a homeowner tying to protect their family and sue...............and win. Trust me, they will come away with a nice amount, maybe not 100 million but some judge will be looking to get his name in the papers.

I saw this lawsuit coming from miles away.

The family has to go after New York State. The government is by far the wealthiest participant in this whole debacle. How much could they expect to extract from Magomed's corner? The athletic commission is ultimately responsible for the safest possible conditions for the combatants. They dropped the ball big time.

Several million dollars will likely be doled out in this case. Mago is a young man who had a demonstrably promising boxing career. It can be argued that his future winnings might've been in the millions of dollars. Beyond that, there would be the enormous medical bills and the pain and suffering allowed by the state's negligence.

I think the courts would recognize the inherent risks in prizefighting. The trouble is with the handling of the case after the fight was over. Mago was all but ignored by medical representatives of the state and left to fend for himself while clearly in bad shape. The officials at the scene should've provided an ambulance and insisted that Magomed go to the hospital immediately after the fight. Yet, there are reports that he was told to see a doctor "in a day or two." This whole things reeks of negligence.

This. A friend of mine was on a case where someone broke into an old guy's house, got shot and killed, and then the old guy got a 20 year sentence. The family of the thief later sued and won I don't remember how much.

Mago chose a fundamentally ******ed profession where he voluntarily allowed people to punch him in the face fully knowing the risks. I don't see why tax payers should have to pay for this.

All that will happen is they will ban boxing in NYC.

Some good and considerate comments in this thread, and a couple of ******ed ones as usual. Abdusalamov's family need all the help and support they can possibly get, that's what we all know.
