Comments Thread For: Lara’s Trainer Picks Canelo Alvarez to Beat Angulo

Ronnie Shields is familiar with both Canelo Alvarez and Alfredo Angulo; he was the trainer to Kermit Cintron when Cintron lost via technical knockout to Alvarez in November 2011, and he cornered Erislandy Lara for Lara’s win over Angulo in a back-and-forth battle in June 2013.

Sounds like Shields is describing Garcia's strategy against Matthysse.

The more I think about it, Canelo might knock this dude out.

I hope Angulo brings it for real.

I think Canelo will win much more convincingly than a lot of people believe. Angulo is the perfect style for Canelo to look great against. The boxing skills and hand speed is too far apart in favor of Canelo for Angulo to win this fight. He's going to get busted up.

canelo could be in the fight of his life. he's never fought anyone who mostly relies on power and aggression to win. one thing i doubt is angulo's ability to take continous punishment. if canelo can consistenly throw combination, and that's a big "if", then canelo might pull of an impressive win. most likely this fight ends with a ko

I said it once and I will say it again. I've threaded it. Canelo will win this fight.

in a fight between 2 slowpokes, gotta give the edge to Alvarez
he at least does have a jab and some movement in his arsenal
Angulo can take a shot, so he'd be coming at Alvarez all the way
he has a chance just because Alvarez' stamina sucks
don't think he can get inside and do enough body damage though

Angulo will take the fight to him and make Canelo fight at a much higher pace than he wants to. Angulo will force Canelo to open up and let his hands go during the times that he would rather take a break. Angulo will walk down an exhausted Canelo and stop him.
