Trainer Joe Gallagher has told John Murray to work his way back up the rankings if he wants to fight Anthony Crolla.

Murray, formerly trained by Gallagher, only recently returned from a near-two year absence following an unsuccessful world title challenge against Brandon Rios.

During his absence Crolla - under the guidance of Gallagher - has resurrected his career after losing his British title to Derry Matthews, with a four-fight unbeaten streak.

The New Moston stylist currently holds the WBO Inter-Continental lightweight belt and promoter Eddie Hearn is working towards a potential shot at Ricky Burns' world title.

However, Murray told the Manchester Evening News that he is a forgotten talent and is itching to get the chance to prove his worth - and that means a grudge match with Crolla.

But its part of Greater Manchester area and Khan has had some monumental fights there. From getting KOed to winning a world title.

He fights in a different class but overall star power wise hes #1 "active" fighter from North West.

I enjoy watching Murray and he had some good domestic wins under his belt before he took some time out. But i agree with Gallagher..Murray needs to put some wins together before he fights the other guys at the top of the domestic scene.

He mentions Matthews and Crolla, but those guys have faced eachother twice, both faced Rees, while Matthews has faced Coyle and Crolla was scheduled to.

If Murray gets a few fights under his belt and looks like his old self..then there is good fights to be made. At the minute though the other guys in that division have no reason to look towards him for now.
