Any examples? Doesnt it make sense that someone with a style like Martinez, a mover who relies on angles and reflexes would do well against taller slower robotic fighters? Have you seen Martinez vs a smaller opponent? I think its unknown how he will do against someone like Cotto. I dont understand how people can be so sure he will be as effective against someone smaller, faster, and better than anyone hes ever faced.Last edited by thatdudespits; 02-21-2014, 11:00 AM.Comment

Angulo would have destroyed Cotto. He preferred Martinez because he is more technical and Cotto cannot deal with pressure fighters. Margarito killed him and was close to doing it in their second bout had that eye injury not occurred.Comment

Margarito lost every round of the second fight convincingly including the round before the stoppage... hard to imagine cotto getting stopped in 3 more rounds when he hadnt taken any significant damage. Chill with the Marvel What Ifs.Comment

While Angulo hits harder, he doesn't have Margaritos chin, nor does he apply the same type of consistent pressure. Cotto could score a stoppage in that one. I worry about canelo because he may have faster hands than Cotto but he doesnt have Cotto's foot speed.Comment

Absolutely, pretty much in every fight before the first Williams fight. He kept his guard up (to protect against the lower angles) and would keep distance minimal, preferring to fight in the pocket.
I know Cotto is miles above Bunema, but the result of that fight is pretty much what I expect for Cotto.
Martinez didn't have to move much in that fight because the power coming at him was manageable. He rather, elected to keep his guard up in that fight instead of keeping far distance and using head movement to setup counters like he does (and gets criticized for) against taller stronger fighters.Comment
