We'll have to wait and see...potentially it could open the way towards a LHW unification, but my sense is that you're probably correct.

No mention of Kovalev in this statement, and his last was saying how he basically was gonna 'want the bank' to fight Kovalev. Nice, but probably ain't happening unless Kovalev's willing to fight for the price of a sandwich.

I can't really blame Stevenson if it's gonna make him more money, but it basically sucks as a boxing fan.

I've gotta admit to a little concern over Stevenson beleving that he's gonna be the next big thing and second only to Floyd - that Haymon can make him a crossover star. Maybe it's true, but as a Franophone of 36 I think it's unlikely even Haymon can do that much - sounds to me like someone who's been sold some rainbows.

Kinda gotta wonder why Tarver and Taylor are still fighting when everything Haymon touches turns to gold...or maybe everyone's told they're gonna be the next FMJ.

Yeah, there isn't a chance in hell of him fighting Kovalev if he were going to jump over to Showtime.

Well Stevenson is actually a draw in his country and can pack people in to see him. He deserves to get paid. In all honesty Stevenson vs. B-Hop in Canada would make him much more money than Kovalev would. It's just a fact.

HBO should get on board and televise that event.

It is a fact, and who can blame Stevenson? Won't make me any less gutted if one of the most anticipated fights of 2014 doesn't get made.

Would you be more excited by Stevenson vs Hopkins or vs Kovalev?

I agree with a lot of what Koba says but Stevenson isn't a big draw in Canada (yet) but it would be a big draw with him fighting a big name. Just like Pascal isn't a big draw unless he fought a big name like Bute, Dawson and Hopkins. When he was the "big" name not so much. But that is irrelevant. Stevenson with Haymon will make more $ for himself that is a proven track record of Haymon. I think he still fights 5/24 against Fonfara and I believe if they pay him right, he will fight Kovalev in September and then unify against Shumenov/Hopkins which will be easy to make now with Haymon involved since he has Shumenov and a good working relationship with GBP. I think the 3rd fight of his 3 fight deal will include a good payday for that 3rd fight even if he loses against Kovalev and include a rematch clause should he choose to exercise it. Just like Dawson got 1.1 million for his next fight on HBO after he lost to Ward, it was part of his deal with HBO for signing to fight Ward. The only losers in this situation will be HBO who will have to come out of pocket for money, they would have gotten Stevenson for less money without Haymon involved and Kovalev. He will have to take a lot less now to fight Stevenson to make the numbers work.
