Al Haymon is first and foremost concert/event promoter. He's been the manager of the likes of Chris Brown and Rihanna and while yes he's made a bunch of people good money, he's also had quite good number of talent go bankrupt under him. That last part is primarily the individuals fault but in boxing Haymon seems to have a consortium of used car salesmen like Sam Watson bringing him guys for a cut of whatever it is. That's fine it's part of the game, the problem I have with all of this is outside of Mayweather who is getting paid insane money under haymon? Nobody else. People could say Garcia as an example but Garcia would still be making the same kind of money he would if he wasn't with Haymon...he's fighting on Showtime and getting the showtime max which he would anyway if he signed a multi fight deal with the network. Perhaps it's other intangibles that go unmentioned but I really would love to know why so many people are signing with Haymon and someone to explain it. I mean if you are on GBP already what's the point? You'll 9 out of 10 times be facing a gbp fighter anyway.

Stevenson with Haymon will make more $ for himself that is a proven track record of Haymon. I think he still fights 5/24 against Fonfara and I believe if they pay him right, he will fight Kovalev in September and then unify against Shumenov/Hopkins which will be easy to make now with Haymon involved since he has Shumenov and a good working relationship with GBP. I think the 3rd fight of his 3 fight deal will include a good payday for that 3rd fight even if he loses against Kovalev and include a rematch clause should he choose to exercise it. Just like Dawson got 1.1 million for his next fight on HBO after he lost to Ward, it was part of his deal with HBO for signing to fight Ward. The only losers in this situation will be HBO who will have to come out of pocket for money, they would have gotten Stevenson for less money without Haymon involved and Kovalev. He will have to take a lot less now to fight Stevenson to make the numbers work.
Plus Stevenson is not a big draw in Canada, he's a very big draw in Canada.
U clearly have no clue u're talking about.

I ain't got a problem with fighters doing the best for themselves, but the whole situation just seems a little Stepford to me...all fighters ***** about their promoters from time to time, but with Haymon, once they've signed you never hear a peep.

I get it that fighters should get paid. But, ONCE AGAIN, none of us, as boxing fans get a single cent of their pay. We should be concerned with one thing: The best fighting the best, plain and simple.
This nonsense about Stevenson maybe jumping ship and not fighting Kovalev....then people are justifying it, saying it makes sense? A message board cannot change the outcome here, but to agree and encourage this behavior like it's acceptable is ridiculous. I want the best to fight, not avoid. Floyd/Oscar/RJJ really perfected the move of only facing who they want, when they want, with the least amount of risk. That's not what it's about.
I don't care how many millions any of these fighters have. Their 401K is not my business.

As for Pascal his second fight with Diaconu was 10,000 people and Diaconu was elevated from interim to full champion and never ever close to being a big name.
Point being both Stevenson and Pascal are draws when fighting big names or not. Bute has been given a fun easy ride so he got to milk the title longer and become a bigger name. Give those opponents to Pascal/Stevenson they will SUPERstars.Last edited by Box-Office; 02-21-2014, 12:55 AM.

Box-office to clarify, Stevenson has somewhat of a draw but no where near can he sell tickets like Bute can or Pascal against a name opponent or himself against a name opponent. On their own, they don't sell like that in Canada. When Stevenson fought Cloud, Pascal was on the undercard and the sales with both being on the card were around 8000 with probably around 1000 in comps and free tickets given away. When Stevenson fought Bellew with Sergey on the undercard it was around 7000 but again several comps and free tickets given away. When you compare that to Bute/Pascal who did like 20,000, Pascal/Hopkins, etc. Just saying Pascal and Stevenson both need to fight "names" in order for the ticket sales to be great. Their promoter knows that, too.
