The interesting thing about your point is that a big part of Chavez Jr's star power comes from his father's name alone. A much smaller part of it is due to his own merits as a boxer. He seems to fail to realize that an athelete's physical fitness should be a way of life, because the body is his or her main tool. A boxer shouldn't have to kill himself to "get in shape" for a fight. He should always be in shape, with the hardest part of his training being about making specific adjustments for each opponent's style. Until Chavez Jr makes the proper mental determination to always keep his body in top shape and take his profession seriously, the status of "boxing superstar" will continue to elude him.

I like Chavez a lot, his style is reminiscing of LaMotta, obviously the earlier hungry version like his fight's with Andy Lee and Zbik. That's true about him not taking the most important fight of his career seriously, so I hope he really does turn it around but if he shows up to this fight and fails to do so, as a purest fan I'd have to turn my back.Comment

Is he still waking up at 6pm,eating cereal, training in his living room and jumping in the pool when his father tried to give him advice?Comment

Jr. needs to work hard at the gym (not training at the living room or so), have a proper diet (forget about the normal junk he consumes which doesn't help get the proper weight), stop using marihuana for recreational purposes, forget about drinking (not more DUI cases), and listen to his father and trainers. Just by doing so I am sure he can be champion again and very likely be indeed one of the biggest stars of boxing. In few words, he needs to have dedication to make boxing his real profession.Comment

Fought Vera at 173 but he had to drop 43 lb just to get there, meaning he was 216 - how the hell did this kid fight at 160?Comment

It's more than discipline, with Jrs slow footwork, porous defence, and lack of a jab it's hard to imagine him beating a top shelf fighter, in shape or notComment
