This seems like a smart move and it shouldn't effect any thing with hbo. Arreola is signed with Haymon and fights on hboLast edited by Respect Power; 02-18-2014, 09:18 PM.Comment

Haymons' boys are always in good match ups so you can save that talk for the guy in your avatar.
Stevenson is 36 and wants two easy defenses to cash in and then face Kovalev to maximize his career earnings cuz its a hard fight. Chavez had to have his back against the wall to face Martinez.
I'm hopeful that Stevenson is either just looking for more money or to make the Kovalev fight the 3rd fight of his contract so he gets 2 easy defenses instead of just Fonfara before Kovalev. Those may be the best case scenarios in all this.
I wonder if HBO isn't to blame for this too. Golden Boy reportedly offered Hopkins to HBO for a Stevenson fight and HBO turned them down under the no-Golden Boy policy. Maybe if HBO would have made an exception this could have been avoided.Comment

Well this may be Al Haymon forcing HBO's hand at this point. I think the "cold war" is slowly simmering down especially once Floyd Mayweather's contract with Showtime comes winding down, I think Showtime may realize it doesn't have the revenue it needs to get those big-time fights. At the end of the day, someone at Time Warner needs to have a conversation with HBO about this non-sense, Golden Boy is a quality stable that can make really good fights.Comment
