Comments Thread For: Joshua Plays Down Talk of Being Ready For Chisora

Anthony Joshua has played down comments from his promoter Eddie Hearn suggesting he is the best heavyweight in Britain right now.

Writing in his newspaper column, Hearn said he believed Joshua was already capable of beating any of his domestic rivals.

Joshua's next opponent is Argentinian Hector Alfredo Avila who went nine rounds with Finchley fighter Dereck Chisora 12 months ago.

But speaking at the Copper Box on Saturday where he watched his fellow north-Londoner defeat Kevin Johnson on points, Joshua insisted he does not see Chisora as a viable opponent in the short-term.

Kid needs to slow down. Only been pro for less than a year.
Get him a guy that'll give him rounds

Exarkly. They're feeding him to the wolves. Chisora would ruin him at this stage. Give him a durable, feather fisted guy who would make him work for the W.

Good ambition and maybe he's playing into what people are saying about him being the British HW hope.... but give him time.

I think Eddie Hearn is a tool for blowing smoke up his arse saying he's the best in Britain already.

When the public starts hearing something like that, they'll be asking questions about his opponents and that leads to someone getting rushed and KOd.

There is a lot of British heavyweights he could fight without facing the real top dogs on the domestic scene.

              Big Fat John McDermott
              Sam Sexton
              Matt Skelton
              Rogie
              Michael Sprott (potentially dangerous)
              Audley (lol)
              Tom Dallas
              Ian Lewison

There are some seasoned fighters in there. He should be fighting these guys now really because otherwise he will be blowing guys out in 2 rounds. It's a bit Deontay Wilder.

The Avila is not good. Chisora took him 9 rounds because he was having an absolute stinker.

Those are people I expect him to fight maybe late next year or so....he's got 4 pro fights in?

If he fights those guys this year, i'd be impressed

                  yeah me too.

I think he beats all of them pretty comfortably though. But it'd be good to get some rounds for him. I just doubt any of those will do that.

He'll fight for the British title by the end of the year.

I wouldn't rule out a Chisora or Fury about sometime next year if he progresses as they are expecting.
