So you think it's silly to ask the question in regards to Maidana but you think it's acceptable to ask it in regards to Mayweather? Got it.

Mayweather has fought opponents better than Maidana. If you think he "never" has, you are the one being being silly.

Beyond Pac only Bradley comes to mind, IMHO.

At this point, for everybody else their hopes have to be that Floyd gets caught or that Floyd gets old.

Its not always as simple as being better skill wise in the way you mean it, Chino throws unorthodox punches that will give Mayweather problems and create a learning curve for Floyd defensively, a small one, but its a window of opportunity for Maidana to do serious damage if he can close the distance.

I think Maidana will def do all he can to male it a very ugly war and try to keep floyd flustered, but ultimately i think Floyd will stay behind some stiff fast jabs and will ultimately begin beating maidana to the body which slow him and eventually take away alot of the pop behi hnd his unorthodx over hand hard left hooks. I think it emds with Floyd hurting his right hand and he takes the fight on points. I think a good glimpse of this fights possible outcome is to take a look at the Devon Alexander vs Marcos Maidana fight which was very entertaining fight.

There are some good points made here and well presented.

              But...

I don't think you can place MM on the same level as FMJ in pure boxing terms.

MM is a brawler, huge heart, good chin, great power and uses some unorthodox punches. I think he is average at best when it comes to footwork and head movement.

The issue for me is timing, FMJ has perfect timing whereas MM needs to throw 4-5 punches to land 1.

I would love MM to smother FMJ, rough him up and just overpower him to a stoppage within 3 rounds - it is his only chance IMO as he has no plan B.

Otherwise FMJ finds his timing, pot-shots successfully for 9 rounds as MM tires.

One slim advantage that MM has is that he has no respect for FMJ, I believe that he will fight dirty (and should) but FMJ knows all the dirty tricks as well...

Unless Maidana can land big early in the fight (R.1 or R.2), he will lose a wide decision or get stopped.

If I'm Maidana's coach, I'd tell him to give it all in those couple of early rounds because once Floyd gets into his rhythm, it's a wrap.

Maidana will do what Ricky Hatton couldn't.

I agree, Maidana will be able to get his life together after losing the FMJ.
