I wouldn't call it pricing himself out though. He was merely asking to get paid for his services if he was going to fight Canelo hurt.
But you don't think GGG-Kirk will pay for itself?
Requesting 2.5 million when you initially agreed to about a third of that sounds like you're pricing yourself out.... making more than double the A-side has, maybe more than in his career.
He's requesting them to pay far more for an incomplete fighter fighting on an injury.
Unless GBP is paying for him for a far better chance to lose, I don't know what that is.

Here's the deal.
Let's say he lost to Canelo because he was hurt. That means he's going to have to start all over from scratch and getting paid peanuts. 2.5 mil will cover him and his family for some time to compensate him for fighting hurt

Later on Thursday, however, Kirkland's story began to change, according to Dunkin. Dunkin said he and co-manager Michael Miller were sent an email by Austin's Curtis Meeks, a former professional fighter and friend of Kirkland's who was 9-1-2 with three knockouts in his 2001 to 2008 career. Dunkin said Meeks recently began serving as an adviser to Kirkland and that in the email he told them that Kirkland "would sign the contract today for $2.5 million and that he is ready to go for the right money."
"Our answer was that James is injured," Dunkin said. "We won't fight him if he's injured, and said he's obviously not going to be ready to fight Sept. 15. His answer was that James could fight later in the year, but that it would have to be for $2.5 million. This guy is obviously telling him he is getting screwed on the money, which is not the case.
"So James is out of the fight. I can't get him $2.5 million. That's ridiculous. I'd love to get him that much because I get a percentage, but it's not reality. James is a great kid but he's getting really bad advice. And if he can't fight, he shouldn't fight at any price. So it's just crazy. It's totally insane. We told James, 'If you're healthy, fight. If you're not healthy, don't fight.' But don't make it about the money because the money he was getting for the fight was very, very good money."
Meeks could not be reached for comment.
"So Kirkland has a new adviser who told him not to take the fight unless he gets $2.5 million. That is what I was told. It is unbelievable," Schaefer said. "I don't get it. That's not how we do business. We agreed to a deal with him and he was being paid very, very well."
Kirkland felt GBP was setting him up for failure and didn't have his best interest; hence the ugly breakup.
I have to agree with him. Kirkland was Canelo's mandatory after he fought Angulo in the WBC title eliminator.
Somehow Shane Mosley got the WBC title shot over Kirkland after coming off 2 losses to Pac/Mayweather and a draw against Sergio Mora. I don't see how Shane losing WW fights = JMW title shot.
I have to agree with Kirk here. They didn't want to make the fight post Angulo-Kirk, but all of a sudden want to do business when the man is clearly hurt.
They didn't have his best interest and he should've cleaned them out financially if he was going to fight in a suicide bout with one arm
Why would GGG duck Kirkland when he is so vastly superior in every way. Kirkland and GGG both fought the Japanese fighter Ishida if I spelled his name right. Kirkland was knocked down 3 times and the ref stopped the fight in round one. GGG beat Ishida with ease and knocked him out cold.Maybe triangle theories don't work but that is enough for me to say GGG is better. Kirkland could have rematched Ishida to show he could do better but he turned that fight down. Some on here think GGG is badly overrated. I think GGG has shown how good he is and Kirkland is overrated. Kirkland is easy to hit and his power is overrated. Kirkland usually gets KOs by beating his man down with dozens of punches. He is not a one punch knock out guy but GGG is. Kirkland has often priced himself out of good fights. GGG is a real champion. Kirkland has never been a champion and he never will be a champion. He may remain a contender for a while longer but he does not have what it takes to be a champion in my opinion.
