    So much this.

I think Maidana's awkwardness, power, and disguised punches/punch variation would befuddle Mayweather.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Maidana knocked out Mayweather. It's what h does. Knockouts is his game.

Also, Maidana has good footwork, believe it or not. I've studied him and his footwork is nearly immaculate. To see what I'm talking about look up "Maidana Broner film study by amillionstylesboxing" (or AMSB).

Yes, if and only if Maidana tries to box his way through the rounds.

But contrary to outsider logic, I would guess Maidana would be going for broke in every round. Since this is a chance of a lifetime and a Mayweather defeat at his hands post-Broner would absolutely skyrocket his popularity and status.

That's why I favor Maidana over Con, Maidana brings a lot of power and awkwardness to the fight. And those awkward shots are difficult to see and time, especially when they're coming in volume.

Floyd will have to move and give angles constantly, in order to keep Maidana from going flat-footed and gaining power behind his awkward shots. That's another problem Maidana brings to the table -- His shots start off from uncommon angles. And those are the most dangerous shots because you may see the starting angle but misinterpret the delivery point.

Bottom-line: If Maidana trains to go all out for twelve rounds, then sooner or later he's going to catch Floyd. Whether he can catch him with a power-shot remains to be seen. But he will eventually catch him -- Forcing Floyd to either change to an inside game or go lateral.

Or, just maybe it was because Broner's footwork wasn't good enough.

Mayweather is no Broner. He was able to keep Hatton away, he'll make Maidana look like he's stuck in the mud.

I have no idea how in the world we're questioning whether or not Mayweather's footwork is good enough to contend with Marcos freaking Maidana.

He will do what he always does, when you attack him he steps TOWARDS you and smothers your attack leaving his shoulder available for the roll. From there he will let you punch and miss, seldomly pot shotting you with a thudding right that he throws from resting on his chest, just extends it straight out, doesn't wind up, doesn't give you a clue. And he always keeps his eyes on you, even in the face of the most violent fluries. He NEVER goes into a defense without keeping his eyes on your every move. Never covers them in defense.

And he does that all miraculously, almost perfect. And thats all when he's just doing defense. He ends up besting you without even having to go into an offensive mode, usually.

But she he DOES go into his offense, he jabs the **** out of you, mostly this pathetic little jab where he squats and hits you right over the nuts.

Once your tired, he ONE, TWOS you to death. Its almost pathetic because he finds his range with his arm straight out and no one still can do anything about it.

So if Maidanna doesn't land a lucky punch, he won't even hardly touch Mayweather.

This is the best post so far. Excellent examples. Thank you, arraamis.

What is that supposed to mean? Are you implying that Maidana is a bad fighter or something? Are you saying he's not world class? Maidana holds his own and is very good. His power and natural fighting ability are a gift, just like Mayweather's boxing skills and discipline are a gift. I don't think it's crazy to say that Maidana -- a strong, intelligent, in-his-prime brawler -- beats a 37-year-old pure boxer. Or at the very least gives him a good fight.

Interesting post. Thanks. But perhaps you're downplaying Maidana's abilities as a fighter a bit? Otherwise, good contribution to this thread.

He'd get touched a few times. Floyd has eaten clean punches in his day. Good thing his feet are almost always way faster than his opponents. He can jump back halfway across the ring any time they start punching.

Not as a fighter, he's great at fighting. But we all know Mayweather doesn't fight. He wins, if that makes any sense.

He's been in with equally strong fighter, faster, better foot work, awkward, not awkward. You name it, he's fought them. Maidana does not pose anything new that Floyd has never seen before.
