Accurate thread. Although JMM is higher up the ranks than Tarver, he missed his oppertunity to retire on that win. Instead he will always be known as 'Whinuel Marquez', unless there's another fight with Pacman and he loses that one, in which case his KO win will be even less significant.

Are Pac fans really still mad at JMM? c'mon man get over it, it's been over a year already, Pac's had a good comeback fight against Rios since then.

i agree with the TS...Milk Dud and the crybaby are only famous because of their rivals
I wasn't really referring to them as resumen building opponents more so as some of his memorable fights which is what this thread is about. Both were entertaining one a FOTY and another FOTY contender is what I was getting at.

          JMM is leagues above tarver,,

Tarver is a good fighter for his time, championship level, and borderline HOFer, but JMM is HOF caliber, and borderline ATG,,,

Tarver lost pretty much everytime he stepped up, vs harding, jones 1, johnson 1, etc

JMM beat alot more top level guys, diaz, casamoyer, katsidis, salido, barrera etc

Neither has great resumes if you subtract roy and manny
But jmm is clearly better, resume, skill, p4p, any way you want to judge it, jmm is better

Since 2000 jmm is probably a top 10-15 guy,, tarver somewhere around 20-30

Those same casuals remember Manny for his rivalries with Barrera, Morales, Marquez, beating DLH and beating Cotto. Not just one loss.

kinda weak when you look at the two fossils and B-level fighters as career highlights...that's not what 'borderline ATG' is for this fight fan

You don't even get the point of the thread. Its about fighters who are mostly remembered for their rivalry vs one guy rather than their whole career.

                    Both fighters resumes are even.

                    Great thread.

I would add bradley to the list if he beats pac.

                    And add Geale and rigo

hmmm I want to completely disagree with this thread but I cant

I still think Marquez is higher than Tarver because of his fanbase. Crappy resume or not, Mexicans love Marquez. And they will remember him long after he's gone. Not too many people even mention Tarver anymore

                      IMO JMM-Pac is tied 2-2
