It will be Emanuele Blandamura (22-0) and Billy Joe Saunders (19-0) that will fight for the vacant EBU middleweight title. Blandamura is thus stripped of the EU title he won January 25 in an upset win over Marcos Nader. The EBU will open all received purse bids March 3 at noon in Rome. Saunders, who holds the British and Commonwealth titles, must be regarded as a big favourite in this one but Blandamura´s conditioning and workrate played a big part in his win over Nader and may also play a part here. B.J.Saunders is surely one to watch, but needs to start taking a few fights outside of the UK to get his name about! He's Commonwealth champion so how about sending him to Australia, Canada & South Africa for a couple of defences? "OH"!
I know a certain frog eyed toe-rag my not make enough out of it!Comment

Saunders has been allowed to develop nicely and this is the perfect time for him fight for that European title. It gives him the chance to take Darren Barker's place in the mix with Macklin, Lee and Murray. I like Saunders. Not a TNT puncher, but can get your attention, box at a fast lick for 12 rounds and has plenty of ***** fighting spirit. Needs more than he's yet shown to figure successfully at world level but I think he has it in him to improve plenty from where he's at right now.Comment

You're kidding right?
While I don't like how Warren pads a lot of his fighters records its completley unjustified in Saunders case. He's only 24 still, only 19-0 and yet in his last 5 fights has beaten meaningful opposition, 3 undefeated prospects including Fletcher who's just beaten Bursak, a former Commonwealth champ (Hall) and Blackwell who's only lost to Bursak and Murray other than him...
I've been thinking how refreshing it is having a Warren fighter willing to take on so many risks and challenges so early in his career... He's got loads of options now too, moving on to European title fights - Bursak would be a good opponent at this stage, veterans like Proksa, Aaron or McEwan, more prospects like Eubank jr wouldn't be bad either. Hopefully he's only a few fights between meaningful world level crossroads fights with the likes of Murray, Macklin and Lee which would be pretty big in the UK.Comment
