I don't think of Floyd as the unified champ at 154 because he won the title at a top weight of 152. I never thought Pacquiao was a 154 pound champion because he fought for it at a top weight of 150. If Cotto beats Martinez at a weight limit of 159 then I won't think of him as the middleweight champ. When Oscar fought Hopkins the weight limit was 158, not 160. I might be the only boxing fan that thinks this way. To me if you think you are good enough to be the world champ at any weight class then you fight for it at the traditional weight limit. If you won't do that then you don't deserve to be the champion of that weight class.

Dropping down an entire weight class at GGG's age is a bad idea.

Also, don't classify all Floyd fans as the same. I do care if GGG is drained because he's a really good fighter who can potentially ruin his career by taking the risk of moving down. I'd hate to see that since he hasn't even been tested at 160.

If this fight were to happen, I'd prefer that Floyd move up to 160. Considering his size, I wouldn't expect him to move up but I'd give him all the credit in the world for doing it.

PS: Don't bother bringing up Canelo. I certainly wasn't in favor of the 152 lb catch weight.

Great post i swear some of these dudes are not boxing fans

He likely won't respond either. What these obsessed detractors like him will never understand is that they are just as bad as fanboys; only they're on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Khan has never fought as a welterweight in his life. His last fight had a weight limit of 143 and all his other fights were at 140 or less. The point is Khan bring nothing to the table. He is the cherry pick of all cherry picks. GGG offered to come down to 154 and fight for Floyd's 154 pound title. If Floyd is a good fighting champion what's wrong with that???? Is Mayweather just going to sit on that 154 pound title or his he going to defend it twice a year the way a real champion is supposed to? If he is only going to fight twice a year then he should give up either his 147 pound title or his 154 pound title because one title defense a year don't cut it.

He is going to fight Ward..he's already said he want s to clean out middleweight then fight Ward next year. Wards not going anywhere. Floyd is done in 3 more fights after May. GGG just wants a piece of that action$$$$ like everyone else. I don't see the problem when the guy publicly said he'd come down to a weight Floyd holds the title at and has fought at least twice at and once with a 2 lb catch weight cause the guy was actually a live opponent .
You Floyd fans act like he told Floyd to come to 160 to get some...Martinez has called Floyd out at 154 numerous times as well and he didn't want none of that either when Martinez was in his prime.

I agree. Mayweather is a welterweight and not even a big welterweight. That's why he should step down from his 154 pound title. As long as he is the world champ at 154 any good fighter who can make 154 is likely to challenge him at that weight for the money and the prestige that a win over Floyd would bring.
GGG is no different than Martinez or Ward because they also challenged Floyd and Ward wanted the weight limit to be 160. GGG really wants to fight Martinez at 160 ten times more than he wants any other fight. I can't feel bad for Floyd getting challenged to fights at 154 as long as he is the champ at 154 he should expect to get called out at that weight.

You could say why is Ward not going up and fighting Stevenson or Kovalev or coming down to like 164 and meeting Martinez or GGG as well. Floyd's the mega fight and anyone from 140-160 wants to get a piece. Even Hopkins wanted some for Christ sake. He's 6-1 190 lbs walking around most likely.

His management said he would fight Ward for an even money split but not for the short end of the money. So if Ward agrees to a 50-50 split apparently GGG would fight him but probably not in Oakland.
