If Pac's is Spotty, Floyd's has visible Eczema.

Yeah, rubbish resume really. Makes Sven Ottke's look like SRR's times 10.

I would rank Pac 500 places below the average journeyman in an all-time ranking.

I wouldn't say top 10, but certainly higher than he is now. He really blew a chance no one else in the sport had by allowing what he's allowed since beating Cotto and Clottey.

How about next time you have a brilliant idea for a post or a thread instead of doing that you go to the bathroom fill the tub with nice hot water, and put lots of salt in that water, and then slit your wrists while laying in it

When Pac was at his peak potential, boxing and gate wise, he had
a real-deal shot at fighting Mosley and taking belts at WW. It didn't
push through for one reason, chiefly: Arum wanted to keep fights
                    in-house (Top Rank only).

That's why, even after Pac expressed a desire to fight Margarito,
post-Hatton, he wound up being matched versus Cotto instead.
That's Mosley had to jump ship BEFORE they could get in the ring
with Pac, but by then it was too late from a legacy POV. Mosley
wasn't the last fighter to have to join Top Rank to get a match
                    with Pac.

Pac could have gone straight from beating Hatton, onto beating
Mosley, then taxing Margarito (Marg had not yet been exposed),
and then gone on to stopping Cotto. Maximized potential from a
                    business and legacy standpoint.

And then Floyd would've come out of his retirement, no?

Pac made no efforts to unify at LWW or WW, and for too long a
time was content to hold an IBO belt, and re-essay the delaHoya
freakshow (Pac went up to SMW, sort-of versus a discredited
                    Margarito).

Because... legacy was taking a far backseat to making money
                    for Bob Arum.

A lot of wasted opportunity, and it's not likely we'll see another
fighter given as much opportunity, in terms of talent, marketing,
and timing (the boxing world was sooo ready for a new darling,
and the mainstream was actually ready to hop on) within our
                    lifetime.
Got your timeline off there. Pac beat Hatton after Mosley had already beaten Margarito and got busted for the plaster. He could have fought Mosley after that, chose Cotto instead, which I don't think was some terrible choice as Cotto and Mosley were practically the same level of fighter.

Once he walked away from Floyd the first time though, he really messed up. The stretch he had fighting Margarito, Mosley, and Marquez 3 was just awful. He could have fought Berto instead of Mosley, or even Ortiz after Ortiz beat Berto. He could have fought Marquez at 140 to make it more legit. He could have fought Alvarado instead of Rios. Bradley and the Bradley rematch are the only good choices he's made since 2009.

To me, it clever maneuvering by Koncz and Arum to maximize his "marketability".
