frazier feels that if you are a fighter you must take on the best in your division period point blank. (the problem is his era of thinking cost his son a few a** beatings)

it wasn't about cashing out his son. the guys back then just thought totally different about the sport of boxing as oppose to today............frazier came up the hard grueling blood sweat & tears way.

he told his son even before he started fighting "you better be sure that this is what you want to do. boxing is not like any other sport. this takes guts and blood. you better be sure that this is what you want to do son"
Come on, how many fighters fought for the heavyweight championship of the world in their 11th or 12th pro fight? Match making is as old as the sport itself. All young fighters are groomed from a young age and are fed confidence builders, then ok level club fighters, then some former "names", then some contenders and if they come through all that, they get the top contenders and some possible champions.

Frazier through his son to the wolves because he wanted a few more years of glory. I'm glad Marvis decided to call it quits when he did.

Good idea, I'll look into that

        Read the kid's book!

The father/son relationship between Joe and Marvis Frazier is one that books should be written about ... oh yeah, there already is one! Marvis's biography, which is called "Meet Marvis Frazier: The Story of the Son of Smokin' Joe" was just released this past summer. It is the first book that really covers this topic in a broad way. Like every real life story, there is a lot more to it than you read in the newspapers. The book is available on Amazon and at Marvis's website:

Could have been the cruiserweight champion of the world. I believe dad insisted on heavyweight though.

I actually saw that fight live on tv. I was about 12 years old. What a fight that was.
