He does very little sparring if any. He doesn't think the wear and tear is worth it or at least he trainer thinks that.

Not really. This is standard for his training camps. It is not like this is the first time he does this. No biggie in my eyes. Now if he sparred all the time before and decided not to now than yeah it would be worrisome but that is not the case.

It is a biggie imo, after being so inactive. Also fight speed is hard to adjust too even if you spar, I can't imagine not sparing coming off of surgery, and not fighting in 11months, and to top it off fighting a guy of Cottos caliber which looks to be in the best condition of his life.

From what I can recall from past interviews and stuff, the max amount of rounds that Martinez ever spars is 60, I believe and that's it. Because the trainer believes it leaves Martinez hungry for fight night, and that is a direct quote.

Like I said before if he all of the sudden decided not to do sparring if he did a lot before after coming off of an 11 month lay off it would be worrisome.

Your reply is garbage, the dude stated up front he isn't a huge boxing fan let him have his opinion, just cause it doesn't fit in your little opinionated box, big deal. And who has the mental edge does matter, Hopkins is the king of this, he gets his opponents steamed up and they fight like they shouldn't.

It is a possibility but if he was fighting a top ten guy we might get a truer representation of that, he has chosen to fight a guy who is just barely the top dog of the division.

Honestly top ten Middleweight is pretty weak, other than the top dogs - Quillen, Golovkin, Sergio.

Sergio's opponents have been pretty weak as well. His best opponents

A bloated and under trained Chavez, Kelly Pavlik who we now know was a closet drunk and admitted to having to boil off 17lbs I believe day before on a treadmill, (probably all Guiness), Paul Williams who beat him in a very close 1st fight, started as a welterweight, then Junior middleweight..... next up probably Barker and look who he fought before Sergio... no one of any caliber, Actually I would pick Martin Murray cause he beat old man Sturm, before that he had fought no one....see where I'm going here.

Cotto is who he is, not a middle weight. but he is as good as these guys, would probably beat most of them.

the step up in size is the main factor, especially if Cotto expects to try to be a destroyer versus a boxer at this weight class.
