The Lennox Lewis of the early 90s was a completely different fighter to the one we saw controlling the division in the late 90s early 00s. Very aggressive guy, threw his right hand way too often. He was very predictable and couldn't control the pace of a fight that well. It worked on some, like Ruddock and he was folded like a deckchair against others like McCall.

Sean Newman: You were expected by many to win your fight against Lennox Lewis. What happened in that fight? Did you just get caught?

Razor Ruddock: Yes, I just got caught, but realistically the fact of the matter is that Tyson and I finished each other. Lewis fought a shell of us both; he would have never wanted to fight us when we were still fresh. It's true, he got a shell of us, and we weren't the same after we fought each other. We fought two brutal wars. His eardrum was busted in the second fight and my jaw was broken, and we were just never the same.

He went 19 hard rounds with tyson in a 6 month period pre prison. He had his jaw broken. He was pretty much done after that. He got ko'd by lewis & morrison after. Those 3 guys were the biggest punchers he faced. Tyson is responsible for the decline in ruddock. Why do you think boxers don't want to have immediate rematches with a klitschko? Same reason... Not good for your punch resistance & health...

Too add to this james toney was done at HW after his 2 fights with sam peter. James was a middleweight slugging it out with a prime 240lbs big puncher. He went 24 rounds with him...

I think he was done after the first fight. He was still very out of shape in the first fight but still had reflexes and I remember scoring the fight for Toney. In the rematch you could almost say Toney got outboxed by Peter. His coordination from the first fight and second fight is night and day. IMO.

Exactly right...Styles make fights but certain nights do too.

I think your opinion is pretty accurate. Freddie roach told him to retire after the first fight because he said toney was getting hit with punches he never use to get hit by even at HW. I too scored the first fight for toney. too bad james never went to HW much sooner.
