My guess is Canelo picked angulo because it will be easier to look good against him than it would be Lara. Its not a terrible opponent, it just shouldn't be on ppv or for the title.

Canelo wanted someone who would play into his game and come at him so he can look good and show of the countering he "thought" he was going to be able to show off against Mayweather. He keeps saying he did this for excitement and for the fans. BULL$H!T. The boring type of fights he's hinting at not wanting to make are basically fights against "boxers" who will beat him and he knows it. Lara for example would do what Mayweather did to Canelo and Canelo wants no parts of lookin bad again. It's one thing to be outclassed by the best but if he gets that treatment from a not so well known Lara, it damages his career in a massive way.

Lets be honest with ourselves. If the Mayweather fight told us one thing it's that Canelo is NOT elite like they are making him out to be. If May can beat Canelo THAT easily, than other talented boxers like Lara would do the same likely just not to a lesser degree. Cotto was able to find Mayweather and bloody his nose, what was Nelo's excuse?

Canelo is one of my favorites right now, but he needs to be honest with himself; he DID NOT look for a "fight" with Mayweather. He tried outboxing him (with mild success in the first half of the fight).

He didn't look great against Floyd but let's not kid ourselves there's only one Mayweather more than anything they picked the guy who would sell the most.
