It's unfortunate, but doing stupid **** like leaving 4k in your car only makes it worse for everyone because it gives thieves incentive to keep doing stuff like that. At least have a safe installed if you must carry big cash. It's not a difficult installation.

Larry is actually very correct. This is either a theft or s burglary depending on which state ur in and if they classify a car as a dwelling. It is not a robbery.

You do not need to be a criminal to know the difference between robbery, theft, burglary, larceny, heist, etc. Robbery simply requires theft with violence, or threat. Theft is just taking something from some one, without harm or threat.

Stop taking sh-t straight from google's own definition.
                    Robbery

The taking of money or goods in the possession of another, from his or her person or immediate presence, by force or intimidation.
                    http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/robbery

                    Definition

The FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program defines robbery as the taking or attempting to take anything of value from the care, custody, or control of a person or persons by force or threat of force or violence and/or by putting the victim in fear.
                    http://www2.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2009/off...e/robbery.html

Robbery is considered a violent crime.

What happened here I think is called grand larceny. If I remember correctly, from my business law class, grand larceny is over $1,000 NY but it could be different in PR.
