Comments Thread For: Miguel Cotto, Sergio Martinez Agree on Fight Name Billing

A major hurdle has been overcome. Sergio Martinez and Miguel Cotto have agreed on one of the biggest sticking points in finalizing their June 7th showdown - the name of the fight. Both sides were stating their case for first-name billing, but a deal was reached where the fight will be called "Cotto-Martinez" - according to Martinez's adviser Sampson Lewkowicz.

Cotto (38-1, 31KOs) will challenge Martinez (51-2-2, 28KOs) for the WBC's middleweight crown at New York's Madison Square Garden. HBO Pay-Per-View will carry the card. Lewkowicz says all of the terms have been agreed up on their end, and now the fight is sitting on Cotto's lap.

    "Major hurdle"?

IMO that's one of the ******est things. I really doubted that was gonna stop the fight from happening. Martinez probably got himself some extra cash for it tho.

I think this is part of what Martinez was talking about…about Cotto being hard to negotiate with

Martinez is the Champion and their popularity is similar. Martinez's handlers should be slapped for allowing this. The real name of this should have been "Payback" anyway. Rob ArScum is feeding Cotto to Martinez trying to end his career for deserting him and working with Golden Boy.

One of the most silly negotiation problems in a long time.
