I still think GBP is hoping to match him with Broner. And IMO the winner of that one would likely be matched with Matthysse. But since AB wants Chino. I suspect GBP may go ahead and put Peterson in with Matthysse in order to get Lucas a belt. At this point, AB needs the belt a lil more than Matthysse to legitimize himself. So I'm very curious to see how this thing plays out. We shouldn't leave Provodnikov outta the mix. Because he's not contractually tied to Arum even though he's basically a quasi TR fighter. You can put him in with either Peterson or Matthysse. He and Lucas would be a train wreck.
Excellent post. I guess will see what moves will be made in a couple of weeks.

Would be a good fight at 140 for DSG, but I don't think he'll be here after Herrera. If it did happen, I'll take Garcia by a comfortable decision. He just wins baby.

Provodnikov has said that he is going to be loyal to HBO and always fight on their network. So he basically is out of the mix.

He also at one time said that he wouldn't fight Pac. And he came completely off of that stance when his name was in the mix for this Apr date. Seems like Provo is getting a lil smarter when it comes to the business side of boxing. Obviously, he's not getting Pac or Bradley next. JMM ain't gonna fight him. I think it would be foolish of him not to explore options elsewhere. Because at this point, all HBO and Arum wanna do is make him a can't miss action guy and ruin him in one war after another. All left for him with HBO is Rios. Pointless fight IMO. It seems like it would be a lil more smart from a business standpoint to at least explore what's going on on the otherside between 40 and 47.

I still think there's some back channel negotiating/reasoning going on with Broner to not exercise his rematch clause with Chino. I think they would perfer Chino over Khan for Floyd in May. And you know they wanna put AB on that undercard, likely against Peterson. Schaefer has said it. Floyd has said it. AB's trainer has said it. Maybe he listens maybe he doesn't. As a fan of his, I'm fine either way.

There isn't any way Lamont Peterson decisions Danny Garcia. No way in hell.

Peterson fights an awful style. He thinks he can dodge punches, so has his face in harms way. Sure, against fighters with imperfect technique, it works. As soon as he is in with a competent fighter who throws crisp shots, he kisses the canvas. Garcia has good technique, very underrated, and excellent timing. He would drop Peterson more than once.

Also Peterson is a show boater. He's like Roy Jones without any of the dazzle. He lands a good shot then ponces around like he's some kind of rock star. He did it all the time at the weekend when he really hadn't accomplished anything worth gloating over - land a good upper cut and he starts dancing, or his opponent covers up and he starts bolo-ing. It was cringeworthy.

Peterson has heart, fitness, and workrate, but that's about all he's got going for him. Garcia will make that jab miss and pick him apart.

Styles make fights and this one would be solid. Peterson would be right there using smart trading.....a distance fight I think, either way.

Lamont Peterson is not a showboater in the least. He did some showboating once he was in control against an overmatched opponent. That's probably the first time I've ever seen him do that. He sure as hell isn't anything like Roy Jones.

Peterson is a really good inside fighter, a competent outside fighter, and will rip fighters to the body like very few. As long as he's still standing after the 3rd or 4th, he will give Garcia all he can handle.
