Comments Thread For: Hearn on Froch-Groves Rematch Frustrations, IBF Confirm

Eddie Hearn of Matchroom has told Sky Sports News that he is working tirelessly to secure a rematch between WBA and IBF Super middleweight titlist Carl Froch, 32-2 (23), and London's George Groves, 19-1 (15), who lost by ninth-round stoppage when the two met at Manchester's Phones 4U Arena in November. Referee Howard Foster's decision to stop a fight that had seen Groves floor Froch in the first and box brilliantly until the midway point, at which point Froch started to make an impression, incensed the viewing public and led to an outcry for an immediate return.

Sounds like the IBF ruling is going to hurt Groves' purse not help it.

So Groves turned down a better offer for a worse one as of now. At best he'll end up with the same offer.

In the last para, it says the IBF could bump Groves up the rankings which would entitle him to a 25% share of the purse.

This is all Hearn anyway imo, I don't think Froch cares so much about the money for himself. I'd say his motivation is more to deny Groves as much of it as possible

Why would Groves think they would move him to #3 all of sudden when nothing has changed since they last released their rankings? And they would have to wait 3 weeks for the next rankings release.

I looked at the rankings, numbers #1 and #2 are "not rated". Anyone know of the reason?

They need to have beaten a top 5 contender to be rated higher than #3.

I don't know Weeb - I'll actually try and look into it cos I'm curious myself, but given the information it's clear that those are the money slots, which kinda suggests it's own answer.

I see, thanks. So unless they replace Gonzalez with Groves he has no chance of getting into the top 3?
