Ah...and there we go - actually that makes decent sense to me - an entirely reasonable effort to stop fringe contenders being able to leverage an undeserved ranking into an OTT payday. How it plays out IRL is of course another matter, but it makes some sense.

    Thanks for the info fokas.

Thanks for the clarification M8 - that's actually a useful thing to know but I've got twitchy fingers now cos my boxing OCD already got tweaked - I'll have to go and read the entire AIBA rules pdf again to calm myself down...

Well it still hasn't been signed, but I've been saying it as well.

Groves turned down a big offer? Or is Froch just chattin ****, either way, Froch has limited options, he ain't getting the Ward rematch, Kessler 3 is gone and Junior is the only one left not names George. I doubt that fight happens without Jr having a belt round him.

so froch v groves 2 is very likely

As much as I enjoyed the first fight and would look forward to the second, the ruling is a disgrace.

The referee made a snap decision when he thought Groves was in trouble. Yes it was a little premature, but it is dangerous when the ruling bodies are stating that it is "inappropriate conduct", for referees to step in to protect a fighter.

Since when have rematches been ordered for TKO's? They never seem to get ordered when there are complete robberies on the scorecards.

Also the debacle with Petersen vs Khan with the strange refereeing, dodgy bloke telling judges what to score and then Petersen being caught for doping.

Wasn't that the IBF then, who not only did not order a rematch, but even allowed Petersen to retain the belt.

Total double-standards, I bet Froch is fuming and is very tempted to ditch the belt out of principle. I can't remember any other fighter being forced to fight the same mandatory twice in 6 months?

It was a terrible stoppage and Groves deserves his rematch. Can't wait!
