Comments Thread For: Showtime's Espinoza Talks Mayweather, Broner, Maidana

Slowly but surely the first part of 2014 for boxing is starting to shape up with fights being announced and discussed. Of course the biggest fight to still be revealed is the one involving the sport’s number one fighter in Floyd Mayweather. Given what we know about Floyd’s Showtime contract, he’ll definitely be fighting May 3rd but the opponent is still unknown.

When BoxingScene and LA Times’ Lance Pugmire spoke to Showtime Sports Executive Vice President Stephen Espinoza, he was asked when Floyd would possibly be making his big announcement. [Click Here To Read More]

I agree. I think Maidana beats Mayweather. Possibly by KO... and I'm a Mayweather fan, but he's 37 years old. Maidana is a bull. I don't see an old Mayweather beating a world class puncher/brawler/boxer like Chino.

Is this a joke? Maidana has no shot. 10-1 underdog at least. I actually think Khan could pose more problems bc of his length and speed. Unfortunately Khans last 4 fights have been bad and he really doesn't deserve it. Very suprised. Garcua don't want it.
The absolute best maidana can hope for is to make a competitive fight like cotto did. But would more likely be like the guererro fight. Maidana waay too slow and one-dimensional to pose any pro***s for floyd.

I think he's entitled to his opinion as you are yours...but 10-1..come on man. I'm sure you've watched boxing long enough to know all it takes is one punch or just one bad night. I think Floyd has gotten folks too accustomed to thinking he's unbeatable. He's beatable as is every man on earth.

I'm thinking maybe Mayweathers not fighting Khan after all. That would have been announced already no? Is It unusual for Floyd to announce his opponent this close to the date? Maybe a member of The Floyds Watch: This thread and all threads to come, could chime in???

the two matchups obviously rank differently in his priority preference

When talking about Money Mayweather's next fight, it's not about who it is, but who the undercards are. The fake PPV queen has to be supported with strong undercards and on Mexican holidays. So you can conclude that they're trying to figure out who they put on the undercards to support the PPV queen. That's what taking them too long to announce the fight. In short, forget about who he fights next. It's about the undercards.

I'm guessing they'll try to add Broner/Maidana 2 in there, considering Money Mayweather has been dying to get Broner in his undercards.

This has the potential to cause a rift between Floyd and Broner.
If Floyd takes Maidana Broner may take offense to that since he wanted the rematch right away.
But if Floyd takes Khan he is basically saying that he thinks Chino will win again and will be there for a Floyd fight in September.
