The advisor to former three division world champion Miguel Cotto, Gabriel Peñagarícano, says for the time being they are only focused on trying to secure a fight with WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez - but if a deal is not closed by the end of January, they are going to explore other opponents as well.

Cotto has made it clear that he plans to fight on June 7th at Madison Square Garden in New York City - with or without Martinez.

Not sure what is going on with this fight, but if negotiating for these two can take time then I can imagine how negotiating for a Mayweather - Pac fight was a pain with their egos.

Originally it was over whos name was going to be on the fight promo first and who was walking out to the ring 2nd and Martinez feeling Cotto wasnt showing him the respect he deserves being that hes the MW champ.

Pretty much this^^^, Trout use the way his family was treated by Team Cotto to motivate himself and it paid off. Martinez should do the same because in reality Cotto is the bigger name.

Hopefully negotiations aren't being held back due to some ridiculous egotistic reasons, and if that's the case I hope everyone just sets their egos aside for once and they just get the fight done for the fans, who at the end of the day are what really matters.

Trout had to bow down because he was unknown, and he was really fortunate Cotto even offered him the fight. Trout couldn't believe he was getting the fight himself. Trout had no leverage other than he was the champion. He had to bow down.

Sergio Martinez is a much different situation. He has leverage. He doesn't have to bow down to many of Cotto's demands. He'll have to concede to some things, but he can tell Cotto to **** off on a lot of things.
