Cotto's opponents also threw a ton more.... more agressive fighters ... and they still landed at very low percentages... so Cottos opponents threw a lot more and still landed at a lower percentage... tells me he can handle pressure... fail to see your point... and why only use fights that lasted over 11 rounds? Btw the margarito fight was stopped before 10... did you not want to include the 161 punches dzinzurik landed in 8 rounds? Macklin landed 135 punches btw.

And I initially only wanted to include fights that lasted the distance, but I realized there were only two for Martinez, and I wanted to make it three for each fighter. I wasn't trying to duck anything.
And my point is:
1) It's not the percentage that matters, it's the number of punches landed. Look at Rigo vs Donaire for example. According to Compubox, Donaire landed 30% of his power shots, which is not that bad, more like average. But when you see that he landed only 64 power punches and only 82 punches overall... Well, that's kind of terrible.
2) Stats of any kind don't really matter all that much. Again, watch some Cotto fights (or rewatch, I'm sure you have seen some) and tell me he isn't hittable.Comment

You are right about the Marg fight, my bad. How about Clottey and the 222 punches he landed instead?

Your using dramatic examples... Donaire didnt come to fight he came to counterpunch a counter puncher....
in the fights we were discussing... percentage is relevant.Comment

And I'm not saying percentage doesn't matter AT ALL. I'm saying the number of punches landed matters more, and that neither matters much.Comment
