Gamboa wanted to get paid his fair share so he passed on a $1.1m purse, by far his career high. Then signed with 50 cent, with next fight vs Farenas on a Top Rank undercard.

He felt he deserved more for the risk he was taking.

Fans throw around gross paydays, just absolutely ignoring federal tax. Out of $1.1Mill, fed tax leaves him at around $650k. This is not including Arum's cut and every one else he had to pay. He might have been looking at a take home pay in the $400k's and that is me being generous I think you're looking at the high $300k ballpark.

Stop throwing around these paydays that promoters talk about as if that is what the fighter will actually take home. To actually get around $1mill, Gamboa's purse would have to be $2mill. Sure he went for a lower paycheck with Farenas and that other fighter, and also his next fight. But then again, those fights were/are not as risky as moving up from 126 to 135 to fight a big LW. So the smaller paychecks even-out with the fights being of smaller risk.

Mikey has been calling out Gamboa for years. He did it after Salido and the fights before that; he even said he would move up in weight to fight him. Gamboa thought he was too good for the kid, but now is begging for a shot.

Yeah but is it better to take 1.1m and walk away with 300k, say, or take 50k for Farenas and walk away with 15k? As it is, 1.1m might be the biggest payday he'll ever see.

And he just said he beats chump Rios with one hand, so that risk/reward excuse doesn't fly.

140lb is good for Rios, Gamboa did not look good at 135lb, I think Gamboa will run all night is he want's to get the W.
