Comments Thread For: Garcia: Maidana Capable of Beating Floyd Mayweather

Trainer Robert Garcia feels WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana is fully capable of defeating the number one fighter in the world, pound for pound, Floyd Mayweather Jr., who also holds the WBC's title at 147-pounds. Since training with Garcia, Maidana has found new life in the welterweight division and racked up several big wins - including last year's upset decision of previously undefeated Adrien Broner.

A guy like maidana gives mayweather more problems than guys like canelo or marquez. Beating mayweather though is a whole different thing. But an awkward guy like maidana who throws from all angles can throw mayweather's shoulder roll defense off rather than the textbook boxer.

Im not saying maidana wins but your logic is on point just look at loyd vs the ghost he was Running vs his awkward pressure style with no real power behind robert but stood in front of alvarez alot of the time and picked him apart

As his trainer that's what he's supposed to say.

Anyone with power has a chance at beating Floyd. Maidana has a high work rate and can catch Floyd in close quarters and possibly hurt and finish him.

And then he'd wake up from his dream.

Floyd's movement would pose a problem. He's a real slick operator. His own defensive pride would possibly work against him though. Ive noticed in every recent Mayweather fight May likes to prove things in there, defensively. What I mean by that is he will move, then stand in the pocket, defend off the ropes, box the center of the ring... and etc. He can in theory be caught in one of his stylistically weaker transitions. Maidana has the toughness to hang in there and take punishment and the power to make it count if he can catch mayweather in transition with something.

that is the reason I consider maidana a more superior opponent for floyd than Khan.
