I respect Vitali for being there 'in the trenches,' so to speak, with the other protestors. It would be easy for him to stand on the sidelines, and live comfortably, while this thing all shook out. He could be holed up in a luxury apartment or hotel in Ukraine but it really means something when he's there along side the other protesters. This will win the heart and minds of the Ukraine people of this movement

He should at least wear a bulletproof vest and maybe some head protection.

As I said in the original thread:

Vitali, of all the politicians in the opposition movement, is the safest one - and, also being the most popular one in terms of beating the president in an election, this presents double problems (for the current government). If what people say is true 'Vitali is a western puppet', this would just further point to the fact that someone being backed by the powers that be in Western superpowers, would not be allowed any serious damage, their agenda is to place someone like him to lead Ukraine to EU/NATO integration - this is primarily a reason as to why he's always involved in these rallies or clashes, always trying to break them up - you think one of the others would have grounds or any success doing this?

He is a special case as he seems relatively immune to any attempts at oppression by his rival, thus he has become the most popular figure. However, people are understandably frustrated and becoming impatient - some individuals in any society, especially ones where revolutions brew, will not believe in any form government. Mark my words, one idiot with a fire extinguisher doesn't represent a majority...

True. And the cujones he displays can only recieve major respect. But is it wise? He is placing himself repeatedly between violent protesters with molotov-cokktales and police with automatic weapons. One idiot might like a klit-notch in his belt.

The BBC's Ukrainian Service profiles The Right Sector movement, made up of the most radical activists protesting in Ukraine's Independence Square.

Groups like this definitely don't represent a majority, but these are prone to rebellion against any power or politician...they have their own agenda.

Vitali's metaphors keep coming... "In order to land a punch, you need to bring your fingers together into a fist. We need to join all of our forces together. That is the only way that we can win."

As far as what I've read in news, Vitali doesn't really have an effect on the hardcore protestors rioting in the Kiev streets (who are supported verbally by Yulia Timoshenko too). His efforts in the streets may have little or no effect to the ones who are most determined to create riots.

He is a powerful speaker in terms of his personal standing as a respected person which can increase effect at times, but actual 'political speech power' isn't his best asset... he even had to learn Ukrainian properly in the last few years to give his party speeches and interviews etc. Anyway, as i've said people have become impatient and some aren't interested in peaceful protest, if after months nothing changes this is understandable...nothing Vitali or anyone else can do right now to stop that, no-one has enough power. My father was in Kyiv a few days ago and he said the protests were ongoing in terms of demonstrations but there was no rioting or violence at the time. He has to keep a constant track on it anyway because he is the head of Euronews (Ukrainian section) based in Lyon, France. Anyway, as he said to me, hopefully no-one gets seriously hurt or killed because it will then spiral out of control completely...moron Yanukovych isn't compliant or helpful in any way at the moment though, even snubbed Vitali and got his aides to attend a promised meeting today.

BTW, if anyone is interested, heres a satellite map pic where I pointed out how close my residence in Kyiv is to the protests, just a few hundred metres away:
