There's lots of boxing talent right now in the former Soviet republics.

Atoev is Uzbek, Medzhidov is Azeri.

Both are former Soviet republics. Atoev looks like an ethnic Russian:

              Go to 2008.

I don't know much about Abbos but hes clearly a top flight amateur who has been in there with Verjinder Singh who you may recall from the 2012 olympics, Beterbiyev, Ismail Sillakh, Ryota Murata, he has wins over Singh, Kovalev and Beterbiyev.
It's spelled differently on the Link but I believe that is Kovalev.

stevenson was the true 175lb champion when i wrote that and everyone has to earn a shot at the champ. at the time hopkins was more deserving imo, but he turned down stevenson to fight kovalev and lost, making kovalev the number one contender. stevenson chose not to fight him and relinquished his status as the top light heavyweight to kovalev who is now defending it against a worthy challenger in pascal.

i was wrong about kovalev, ill admit that. i felt he was calling out stevenson prematurely rather than earning the right to fight him. then he did, credit earned and given. its amusing to me how theres an entire page of people jumping on my mistake, i guess i dont make them too often so people feel the need to take advantage. at least im man enough to admit when i do.

dont get me wrong, i still stand by my opinion that kovalev at the time didnt deserve to fight stevenson which is clearly not the case at this point. but i was wrong about his intentions and the faith he and his team had in his ability.

idk what people want me to say, there are people who to this day give guys like floyd, JMM, rigo, wlad and manny zero credit for everything they accomplished, but people jump on the chance to point out a mistake im willing to hone up to? and im the one who is "obsessed"? odd..
