There have been so many great professional pugilists who have lost in the amateur ranks and been stopped that this doesn't matter to me at all. Many fighters become bigger and stronger as hey graduate into the pro ranks and their chins improve with their size and weight.

Does this amateur bout mean that Stevenson will knock Kovalev out? Who knows but does Stevenson have the power to do so? Most definitely. That's what makes it such a great fight.

There is a difference in getting punched by a heavy handed light heavyweight to a lesser handed middleweight whilst not wearing Headgear. Adonis is not Chinny.

And in the rematch Adonis demolished him with skills. Same skills will apply in a Kovalev Bout.

the headgear makes no difference to punches to the chin, just protects the face from swelling and cuts. the gloves however are night and day. only 2 oz difference in size but they are constructed entirely different and amateur style gloves are pillows compared t pro style gloves.

other than that you are spot on, boone isnt a world class fighter but he is a world class puncher. he had kovalev just as badly hurt only difference the ref gave him a chance to continue and he weathered the storm as opposed to stevenson who beat the count in the same manner but wasnt given that opportunity. he also had ward on the canvas, dude can crack.

thing is adonis' boxing skills are vastly improves now compared to when he lost to boone, that was evident in their rematch. kovalev has a punchers chance against anyone but his skill level isnt on par with stevenson who has just as much power and seems to have an even better chin.

kovalev has a punchers chance against anyone but stevenson is the better fighter. there is a reason kovalev isnt willing to fight the likes of pascal or dawson to earn a shot at stevenson, but is just calling him out prematurely hoping to land that payday before it goes away.

(Kovalev also had a hard time with Boone in their first match -- as Ward also had back in 2005... In the second fight, Kov KOd Boone in the second round; while Adonis needed 6 rounds to finish the journeyman in the rematch... But whatever)...

In order to actually assess Adonis there's no need for dirty talk or comparing third party fights...
Adonis must prove himself in the ring with Kovalev. Period...
