IN Fact Ray Leonard came off a 5 year retirement, took NO tune up fights, to fight Hagler. Regardless of who you think won that fight, NOBODY has the ballz to pull that off like Leonard did. But it's asking too much for Mayweather who thinks he's the greatest of all time (far from it), to go show himself against Pacquiao at '47, Gennady at '60, and Ward at '68.... The best you might get out of Floyd is to fight a 40 or 40+ Sergio Martinez who is well past his prime, but that's how Floyd works.... He's no Hagler, Leonard, Hearns or Duran. Floyd never grew a set of ballz, but he loves to go to the bank more importantly.
Its always hilarious seeing a keyboard warrior calling a world class fighter a coward with "no balls". Lol

Nyahahaha thats hilarious, when does marquez became great and legendary? just because he KO pacquiao, without that hes just a mexican boxer, nyahahhaa twas even a fluke KO. Its more because Pacquiao just wanting to entertain those who paid to see him fight he committed the grievous mistake not because Marquez is that great, it is because of pacquiao's mistake not because he bested him. for three fights he cannot even dent pacquiao then getting a strength "angel" all of a sudden he was Samson and he was hercules. That win by Marquez will just become a footnote to the true legendary run of the Destroyer Pacquiao.

Floyd Mayweather has done what many boxers fail to do: he figured out his identity and style as a fighter early on in his boxing life, he perfected that style, and he's turned it into one of the most financially impressive careers of all time.

Further more, Floyd deserves a lot of credit for never losing focus on the ring. He's always trained and worked hard, ate right, and kept himself in top shape, and that, along with careful selection of opposition, may be the top reason he's never been defeated.

I only hope Floyd truly understands where he'll stand in the sport historically. I suspect he thinks he'll be remembered as the greatest and best fighter of all time. He probably thinks that the fans hate him purely because he's the best. But that isn't why the fans hate him. For one thing, Floyd isn't even close to being the greatest fighter of all time. It's really impossible to achieve greatness without facing greatness as an opposition of some kind. For some fighters, that simply means overcoming great odds to become the best, like Rocky Marciano did. For other fighters, like Muhammad Ali, greatness comes from having a great rival like Joe Frazier.

Sorry to break it to Floyd, but that will not be the case for him. He missed his chance to create that legacy for himself, and may have denied Manny Pacquiao the opportunity at the same time. Manny seems to have always understood that, and has never stopped hoping that the two will carve their names in the stones of the all time greats.

The reason fans hate Floyd Mayweather is because he never lives up to his own billing. He will probably finish his career undefeated. And, contrary to popular belief, many of the fighters he's beaten are noteworthy, but history will never stop questioning his resolve for greatness.

As I said before, to be great, one must greatness as an opsticle. It's always been that way, and always will be.

Floyds had an extremely impressive career, but he simply hasn't left the mark of greatness. In fact, he never even tried.
                This is what Im sayin...

                  • I personally will miss Mayweather..The things he's done for the sport, and the class he's shown in the ring was nothing short of amazing..I really want him to go out fighting a guy like Lara..If not it's cool..Mayweather has done everything he needs imo..If he stopped fighting tomorrow,he'd not only walk into the Hall, but imo he'd be in the top 20 ATG fighters of ever..

I want that Lara fight for him,if he can pull that off..For me he's a top 10 HOF imo..I have nothing but well wishes for The Money Man..Good luck..

Hearns had 3 epic rounds of war with Hagler. Both went all the way up and fought at 175 looking for challenges. Floyd thinks he's the greatest thing since sliced bread... ball up and go fight Gennady at 160!!! They go fight Ward.... Floyd is a huge puzzy caring nothing more than lots of money and little risk. He's playing a different game than the legends before him. Hell, Hagler could have done the same thing, and retired undefeated. Leonard could have done the same thing.... he didn't need to fight Tommy Hearns twice, he didn't need to fight Roberto Duran twice. Duran didn't need to give Leonard a rematch after he won the first fight. Duran didn't need to fight Hagler, he didn't need to fight Tommy Hearns which got him knocked out.... He didn't need to take all those risks. All these guys could have hung around and waited until the others turned 40, or had too many wars, then pick them so to put their big names on his resume. But that's not how those guys rolled. That's how Floyd rolls. Aaron Pryor didn't need to give Arguello a rematch after their first fight, but he did. So when you make these stupid comments how Floyd changed the game... he really did... he made it about the money with little risk as possible. Be strategic WHO you fight and WHEN you fight them. Nothing credible about that.... Ali & Frazier, Ali & Norton, Ali & Foreman, Frazier & Foreman, Holyfield & Bowe 3x, Holyfield & Tyson twice.... those guys didn't need to take all that risk, but they were legends of Boxing, and that's what Legends do.
Ok where to start in your moronic rant. First of all you can't compare Ray Leonard and Hearns to Floyd. While it's true all fought at the WW limit, Ray and Hearns BEGAN their career at WW, which means they had no choice but to move up from WW. Floyd began his career at featherweight. He has already moved up 5 divisions. If you knew anything about boxing it would be obvious to you why a move to 175 or 168 to fight Ward is ridiculous.

Second, you're right Mayweather is playing a different game from the guys in the 70's 80's. It's called the PPV game. You see something you might not remember because you probably started watching boxing recently is that back then there was no such thing as PPV. Fights were on major TV, so fighters didn't have to worry about PPV numbers. Fighters didn't have to worry about ratings, boxing was a major sport back then, so fighters fought often.Today they don't, so all fighters, NOT JUST FLOYD, but all PPV fighters select their opponents based not only on ranking, but also marketability. After all no one wants to fight for free. And even in the 80's negotiations weren't easy. Leonard forced Hearns to wait a year before they fought, and ask Hagler how easy it was to get the fight with Leonard, or Pryor who never got the fight.

Third, Pryor did have to give Arguello a rematch because the public perception was that he cheated him out of the first bout. Not to mention it gave Pryor a career high 2.5 or so million dollar purse, so yeah he didn't have to fight him again but he also wouldn't have made all that money. Same goes for Duran who gave Leonard a rematch.

You keep talking about other guys here and how they never ducked anyone, but you clearly don't know the full story. Years ago fighters had no say, in what they did. The sanctioning belts were respected, networks put fights on TV, and fighters fought often. It isn't like that anymore. Doesn't diminish a fighter any less.
