Do you BELIVE in Deontay Wilder?

    June 2nd 2007.

Doesn't sound an important date does it?

But this was an important day in boxing history. For it was the beginning of a drought of American heavyweight champions.

Shannon Briggs surrendered his WBO title to Sultan Ibragamov, and an american heavyweight champion has not been seen since.

    How about November 13th 1999?

That was the date in which Americas last TRUE heavyweight champion of the world, Evander Holyfield lost his titles to Lennox Lewis. Sure a couple of years later Hasim Rahman would briefly clinch the title, but he lost it as quickly as he gained it, he had no reign to speak of.

    .................................................. .................................................. .

    Enter Deontay Leshaun Wilder

He stands 6'7" tall, he has the physique of a greek god.

It is not difficult to imagine young Deontay, plying his trade in the staples center, one of the stars of the NBA, or perhaps even plying his trade in the NFL, such a physical specimine, an athlete.

The days of short, tubby guys from America being humiliated in germany seem to be at an end. Likewise the 90's contenders, doing a second time around the circuit seem to be at an end.

At 30-0(30) Deontay has crushed all before him, a path of destruction throughout the ranks. But still there are nay-sayers.

They say he has not fought the right opposition, not taken the tough fights. But Deontay has destroyed all put in front of him, is it a stretch to imagine he can do the same through incrementally better opponents?

    What say you?

Will Deontay return Glory to America?

Will he take the ceremonial torch from Evander, and become the next great of heavyweight boxing?

He is nothing. A complete & utter bum. The purest example of an American hype job, and I will take great pleasure in watching him get flattened by whoever, it doesn't matter. He believes his own hype, so I hate him even more. Yes, I'm a 'hater'. I absolutely ****ing despise this bum. His windmills & stick-thin bambi legs just make me laugh. My god what an absolute joke.

We do not believe in Deontay Wilder. It would be so sad if we did.

He'll be a contender for sure. Why denying it? The guy punches like a horse kicks.

He'll make easy work of some of the current day contenders and then get KOd in one or two rounds when he steps up.

I believe in his punch to do much ko'ing, and putting many people to sleep.
But I also believe his chin not to be in the same class as his punch, and his chin may lose the battle.

All evidence points to him getting wrecked when he finally gets in with somebody worth a ****.

Can't say for sure. His resume makes Russell Jr's look like Oscars. He can punch but who really knows how much power he really has. Top contenders and champions can take power shots.

                  Not in the least.

But in today's heavyweight division, he could be a champ.

I'm not sure. He looks like the goods, but he is being brought along incredibly slowly. 31 fights into his career, the best opponent he has faced is a shot to pieces Lyakhovich.

It's probably a warning sign regarding his chin. I wouldn't be shocked if he ended up like David Price when he faced his first true test.
