Looks like Darren Barker is retiring

There's news coming out that Darren Barker is retiring.

He was quoted last week saying he was still undecided.

I know it was a complicating factor in Sturm, Murray, Geale, GGG match-ups and such.

Very little detail out there at the moment but you can only imagine he's had another medical assessment, needs surgery and decided to call it a day.

British former middleweight world champion Darren Barker announces his retirement from boxing at the age of 31.

He has already said in previous interviews he needs an OP, but was unsure how long he would be out. Presumably he got bad news, putting him past the 6 month rematch window with Sturm, so decided to retire.

Who cares? He pulled a victor Ortiz against Martinez. I mean how do you get knocked out by a punch that you block. Even Emmanuel steward was confused.

SMH right when he made it. At least he can still hold his hat on having one of the best wins of the year.

Good luck to Darren. He did very well to win a world title. I think he over achieved in all honesty, and I never believed he was amongst the best in the division, but he had plenty of heart and guts which got him through the Geale fight.

Really unfortunate. The guy had finally won a title.

Best of luck to him going forward. Doesn't he train fighters?

I can't believe he got up from that body shot that put him down. Insane guts. That was a very underrated fight IMO.
