Comments Thread For: Cotto Says Canelo Clash is Very Possible This Year

When Puerto Rican star Miguel Cotto (38-3, 31KOs) turned down a $10 million dollar offer to face Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on March 8th, he was rolling the dice on two-fight gamble in 2014.

Cotto passed on Canelo (42-1-1, 30KOs) for a chance to face WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 26KOs) on June 7th at New York's Madison Square Garden. Canelo will instead face Alfredo Angulo on the March date.

Cotto has a big appetite, and a small stomach.

Cotto is a warrior, he will accept the fight and take the outcome like a warrior, win or lose.

Lineal MW championship will mean more, but beating Canelo will be so sweet. I look forward to it.

I think there's a chance that Cotto vs. Martinez could fall through. If that does happen then Canelo vs. Cotto is a possibility for July 26th.

If Cotto loses to Martinez on June 7th then maybe we get a Canelo vs. Cotto fight on November 22nd.

If Cotto beats Martinez then I don't think there's any chance of a Canelo vs. Cotto fight. Cotto would probably land a Mayweather rematch.

Martinez can always fight Rubio in his comeback. Cotto will lose more by passing on this fight with Sergio than the other way around. Sergio knows this and so does Cotto. This posturing is just an act, he will accept Sergio's petty demands and fight him. Otherwise, Sergio takes on his mandatory for less money and Cotto is at the mercy of Canelo and will essentially be begging him for the fight and have to bend to most if not all of Canelo's demands.

They'll fight regardless if both win or lose their next bout.
