  • I must be in the minority here. I never for one second thought Pac was a threat to Mayweather at anytime of his career. Oscar was the only fight I thought Floyd had a good chance of losing but that was because of the advantages that Oscar put in place.

        I thought Ortiz was doing a good job early on by swarming Floyd even tho a lot of it wasn't landing clean. But like they say, to beat Floyd, tire him out by hitting arms, shoulders, etc.

        I think Floyd felt threatened thus found the easy way out with the cheapshot. And no I'm not trolling.

        no, you are not crazy because if you are then I too because I also thought ortiz game plan is the right game plan. It was only ortiz's weak mentality that got better of him. I saw the same desperation in Floyd vs Castillo 1, Floyd's was using elbows and clinching, had the fight continued theres a good chance that it will wear floyds down and the result will be different. Relentless swarming attack is the solution to floyds style, and who can really administer that to him in the current crop of fighters around, your guess is as good as mine.

          In hindsight now, one could say that the Cotto fight took something out of Margarito, and he was made to order for Mosley. Not to mention that they took away his "plaster" advantage.

          And then Mosley at his advanced age takes a whole year off. It doesn't look good.

          • Never for me that I can recall in recent years nobody. Whenever I did think "Hmm I think this guy could beat Floyd" he never fought them at that time so that don't count.

              Floyd handled him with eeeease. A lot of people knocked that win because they felt Marquez was too small to challenge Floyd. I agreed with that assessment, but I still thought it was amazing how Mayweather utterly dominated a great fighter. I suppose he must've landed more, but I only recall one significant punch JMM landed in that fight.

              • The only time I thought Floyd might lose was when Mosley landed that monster shot. Other than that, it was a foregone conclusion that he'd beat Cotto, Canelo, Ghost, Ortiz, Khan, etc.

                • The De La Hoya fight was the last time I rooted for him to lose; after the Cotto fight I thought Canelo would beat him after he beat up Joessito. But changed my mind after the Trout and Guerrero fights but was nervous that night.

                    Mosley's name has been coming up a lot, but I felt that Shane was just too past it to give Floyd much trouble. Of course, the punchers chance was there, but not much else. The Margarito fight was a tease.

                    Corrales, Castillo and DLH have come up a lot, too. Castillo gets the nod for me. Corrales came earlier, so he's out. At an earlier time, I would've felt better about Oscar, but not by the time he fought Mayweather.

                      i actually thot ortiz had a shot given his performance before with andre berto.

                      he had the athleticism and power to trouble him, and i expected him to pressure him, but instead he came out tentative.

                      Funny thing about Mosley;

                      The margarito-Mosley fight made Shane look better than he was. Margarito had just got caught so he couldnt rely on his power coming through in the later rounds, and getting caught probably distracted him (thinkin about the consequences, his career etc).
