  • Comments Thread For: Schaefer: Maidana Rematch is Dangerous For Broner

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer admires the fighting spirit of former three division world champion Adrien Broner (27-1, 22KOs). On Friday, Broner exercised his contract clause for an immediate rematch with WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31KOs).

Last month at the Alamodome in San Anotonio, Maidana shook up the entire boxing landscape with an upset twelve round unanimous decision over Broner. The tough Argentinian had Broner down twice in the contest and applied a lot of pressure in every round, with numerous punches landing hard on Broner's chin and body.

What Richard meant was: I wish he wouldn't have made this decision because we could have made so much more money off of him in easy fights but now after he gets crushed again he's pretty much done.

please don't let this fight take place in texas again. the officiating sucks - regardless of which fighter you thought got the benefit of the doubt in their last fight, I think we all agree that the officiating was terrible and the judging (in general i.e. canelo/trout) is no better.

This article reports as if the fight is a done deal, but team Maidana has clearly stated (look at Chino twitter account) they don't know who will be the next rival and they are open to different options. By the way, Argentinian media has reported nothing at all, which is suggestive.

Then Paulie didn't get a Broner immediate rematch after a SD loss... But Broner did get it from Maidana after a UD loss...

                I lost rematch !

F..k Broner, what is there to prove and why does Broner deserve a rematch, he was knocked down twice and beaten decisively let him fight Khan as they both need to prove something!

Schaefer makes this look like as if Maidana has no other choice whatsoever.

I have a feeling this fight would eventually land as a co-feature to Money Mayweather's next fight in May, just like the Garcia/Matthysse fight. Floyd has been dying to get Broner in his undercards.
