Comments Thread For: Juan Manuel Marquez May Target Maidana and Porter

Mexican superstar Juan Manuel Marquez reiterated that he only has one goal in mind: to become a world champion in five different weight divisions. He would like a rematch with WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley. But Bradley is being considered for an April 12 rematch with Manny Pacquiao.

If Pacquiao selects Bradley, Marquez notes that he won't be forced into fights with boxers like Ruslan Provodnikov or Mike Alvarado. Instead, he will pursue a world title opportunity with the other sanctioning bodies.

This going to backfire big time on Marquez...

He's likely not getting Maidana, so he wants a fight with Porter? Porter is not a attraction and his fight with Alexander did even worse numbers than the Rigo-Agbeko fight. I can't imagine Showtime trying to make that fight a PPV, so he'll be fighting on Showtime with a smaller audience against a talented fighter without a big name. I mean don't get me wrong it's very respectable but it does not make a lot of sense.

I expect Porter to beat Marquez too, it's going to look bad on Marquez to end his career on a two fight losing streak if he chooses to fight Porter.

Let me guess, you want them in Mexico too? Anyway, they both beat him. He won't be able to deal with Porter's size and speed either.

Interesting,,, honestly i dont like his chances vs porter or maidana,,, age is just catching up to him,,,, he is slow, strong puncher, extremely skilled, but i think he can be outworked by fresher legs/lesser fighters ie hopkins-taylor, dawson,,, chavez-randell,,,, holyfield-ruiz

will be able to put up a good effort but ultimately fall short

Give Shawn Porter a career high payday and let Top Rank promote it given how big of a name Marquez would be in comparison to Porter. HBO owes it to Marquez to break the Golden Boy fighter ban for this one fight. And Golden Boy shouldn't be douchey enough to stand in the way of letting Porter have a chance at a legend. Worst case scenario, Marquez retires after beating Porter, and Porter will likely still be the #1 challenger for the belt after Marquez vacates it.

Maidana fight might be more complicated to negotiate though.

Yeah, sadly that Pacquiao KO was JMM's last hurrah IMO. I don't see him beating either of those names listed. He just doesn't look like the same JMM to me.

Maidana has a mandatory rematch with Broner so that is not going to happen. Would love to see the Porter fight, but that would require Zanfer to work with Golden Boy.

I give him credit for trying to reach his goal, can't take that away from him.
