I read in a RING magazine article on Murata how thin the comp is north of 160 in Japan. Isn't Ryoto already the #1 ranked MW already?

I don't think number one... but according to Boxrec he's #1 in Japan and #25
      ?????
They do theirs by a point system, but his first win was against a very quality domestic opponent. His next opponent has only lost to Dzin, Wolak and Sturm with 23 wins by KO out of 29 wins....but he's also 40.
IMO, was impressed by the quality win with his debut, but clearly needs work.
He's moving pretty fast though, IMO

That's what I meant, in Japan. My mistake.

He definitely has skills, but a little fine-tuning is needed to exceed at the elite level. I think TR signed quite a few good prospects out of the 2012 games. They got the Gold medalists out of most of the divisions, while GBP went for the USA team mostly.

Hopefully they do what they did with Verdejo in Macau and give him a PPV undercard spot to show what he can do to a large audience. He has a very entertaining style.

OHhh nono, I know what you meant, lol.
I just didn't think he'd be rated number 1 domestically...I know they're thin there, but didn't think he'd be rated number one, despite the quality of his debut opponent.

I'm trying to remember him, but I think he has a very loose guard. Dunno, maybe I'll watch his last fight again. I do know he's back in Macao in Feb, he might've bumped up to televised because Shimoda/V12 got denied by the WBA..... that or they just fight somebody else for Shimoda.

Ryota Murata vs Dave Peterson 2013-12-06 by tiguidou421

Uses the jab well and tends to throw in combination rather than one at a time, something a lot of the top amateurs struggle with. Does get hit a little bit more than you'd like to see, but his offense is pretty varied. He needs to tighten up his shots, but other than that his offensive game is pretty advanced. Good at shooting his shots from a distance, but he also mixes in uppercuts and good body shots in close.

Yea, I've been focusing more on his defensive deficiencies...then again he's still working his way up, so i'm probably being too hard since 2 fights is still a learning process. He better tighten things up though, TR aren't really feeding him opponents like they've been feeding Shiming

Also he signed Esquiva Falcao..... two MW's to build up with Korobov in the wings.
Arum is building up his MW stable for the future.

I've had an eye on Murata, but haven't seen much from Falcao. What are your thoughts on him? I know you're pretty high on Korobov.

Honestly, the only fight I remotely remember was his final showdown with Murata in the 2012 Olympics, and I thought Falcao won that. I just remember who I felt won, not so much the action.... but to be honest, I'm not to high on Brazilian boxers. Haven't really seen any that've impressed me so far, but Falcao might change my mind.
I might revisit some of his AM fights when I have time.
And yea... I am pretty high on Korobov. Talented fighter that despite with the TR backing, is moving very slowly. I heard it's his father that wants the slow pacing...but dude isn't moving fast enough at 30+
We all saw him as a Top MW champ a couple of years ago.....he's nowhere right now
