Thats fine if you think that but just like Ruslan, GGG, Trout ,and Lucas, Kov is being pushed hard. He is good but the pedestal some of you put him on is out of control. Everyone is afraid and he will destroy everyone. Come on give it time at least. Trout stepped up and got beat down, Lucas stepped up and got beat down. The others we are still waiting for the step up
Lets slow down over Sergey Kovalev

Adonis is the lineal champ. But that doesn't make Kovalev the next hype job just because he wasn't lucky enough to get Dawson that nightComment

Just another gimmick of boxing like we've seen many lately they eventually crack and fade away and forgotten nobody remembers "Hits hard" Makes for a lot of hype but most of the time that is it.Comment

Kovalevs achievements are incredibly impressive (as are Stevensons) - coming out of almost nowhere in the space of 12 months and tearing through the LHW order. Arguably, for those who are interested in the higher weight divisions Kovalevs had just as impressive a year as Stevenson, despite Stevenson having collected the better known US scalps.
Surely there's nothing wrong with getting excited over a breakout fighter who's gone from being a barely recognised up and comer to one of the top names in the division by means of 4 brutal KOs in the space of 12 months?
I can't understand why this this kind of excitement around a fighter troubles people...what does it matter? If you don't buy it, fair enough - but getting excited over prospects is always going to be part of being a boxing fan.
Would you have been saying the same things to fans of Ward or Floyd when they saw promise in those fighters before they 'stepped up'?Last edited by Citizen Koba; 01-09-2014, 12:29 PM.Comment

The hate some guys get on here is ridiculous!
Do people truly believe that a boxer who just so happens to have power is going to eventually get "exposed" and disappear forever? What's going to happen if god forbid, one of them don't? Do we just pretend like they don't exist?Comment

Thing is, Kovalev has earned this recognition more than Lucas, or especially Golovkin, which is funny since he gets less attention than they did and do. Kovalev went ignored until he started obliterating real contenders in his division. Lucas had a couple fights most people thought he should have received a decision for, and one impressive KO. Golovkin has one impressive KO over a decent contender. Kovalev has destructive KOs over a should have been champion and a champion. Guys can't even get past the 3rd round with their senses intact.Comment
