In the sense that he's decided to be his own man & call his own shots is more a testament to his success as well as being the 'face' of the sport. You may have boxers you like or respect more but no one in today's crop of fighters generates the same level of interest (be it praise or scorn) than mayweather and the numbers reflect that. As for the ray robinson comment, his accolades in the ring are unparalleled but he died broke. Joe Louis died broke. Mike Tyson & Evander Holyfield made millions only to lose most or all b/c of various circumstance. Boxing is both business & sport. I realize the average boxing enthusiast doesn't care about the business aspect. They only want to acknowledge what occurs in the ring which is easy for the person who doesn't have to place themselves in harm's way. Its no different than a player refusing to report to training camp b/c of contract disputes or strikes taking place in major sports. As a fan, you may not appreciate it but the business/money side of professional sports can never be downplayed. As for him being a "disgrace" to the sport or giving a "bad name" to black folks, is quite the opposite. I for one can respect any young brother who managed to escape a poverty stricken, drug & crime infested environment while becoming a self made millionaire based on hard work and talent. Mayweather is actually an inspiration to anyone who for namy inter city dwellers surrounded by a constant barrage of negativity. Lastly, I doubt any one who fights for a living is "scared" of his fellow peers. Floyd is simply going to fight his way and on his terms. Unfortunately for him (although I doubt he cares), that mindset doesn't translate well w/ some boxing fans who prefer not to see the business side spill over into the spotlight.
Your post shows less bias than the typical Floyd fan and I commend you (even repped you). However, let's not kid ourselves - he will avoid any fights that threaten that 0.

I don't want to see Guerrero/Khan-level opposition justified while the fights fans are clamping for are being circumvented with a myriad of excuses

The point I raised is valid. Posters like you attack any fighter, manager, promoter or poster that criticizes manny. You use the exact same criticisms whether they apply to the individual or not. You place blame on anything and everything but Manny.

If thats how it is fine. But think about it-why is criticizing manny met with such ferocity?
I only attack fighters who gives the definition of a coward!!!

Boxing is a hurt game, so a health comes first attitude is cowardice and unacceptable to me.

And the only fighter I blamed aside from Mayweather was JMM. And nothing else.

Warriors are well remembered and cowards are not

OK Let me get this correct. IYO, floyd avoids all fights that he will lose. Yet we know floyd offered manny the fight in 09 and we know why manny refused the fight. We know floyd called manny and offered him a the fight again, this time with a much crappier deal. SO that begs the question:

If he only fights guys he can beat then why did he offer the fight to Manny twice? Is Manny someone who is easy to beat or is he someone that will take floyd's "0"?

i believe floyd has a GENUINE fear of losing his '0'... period. that is his marketing angle. perfection. once that gets tainted, he loses everything. i honestly think floyd cornered himself & has no choice but to "play safe" for his livelihood. floyd would get crucified if he lost, sad to say... and thats simply a grave he dug for himself.

aside from a small niche group of boxing purists, floyd's fanbase is mostly parasites that cling on to "winners". once floyd loses, they will abandon him entirely...

In that case, Pacquiao is a coward because he didn't want to fight Mayweather in 09 because he thought drawing blood close to the fight would make him weak. That's a health comes first attitude and definitely not a warriors mindset.

As to your post-Manny has fought far lesser comp than floyd since 2009. Are you as critical of him?

                • Speaking of going into a fight that you don't think you can win?? Who does that??

People always say that Mayweather only fight guys that he knows he can beat?? The only fight I remember going into a fight and admitting he was gonna get his ass kicked was Shane Mosley vs Pacquiao, which was purely a money fight.

Spoken like someone who has never fought before in his life. Ask any soilder -the goal is to get home unhurt, not die on the field of battle.

There was a movie with James Gandolfini and Robert Redford-the last flag. watch it. You are James Gandolfini's charachter.

Great fighters are remembered and floyd will always be remembered. Thats what really angers posters like you.

I'm among the Pacquiao fans who think Floyd would win if they were ever to really fight. With that being said, Floyd is risk-averse and doesn't want to take a chance with a speedy, mobile hard-hitting south paw with a good chin.

By the way, $40mil is a duck offer. Like I've said, 40%, heck even 35, 30%. But 0% PPV. C'mon
