Wow, 38 people have died from boxing in Japan alone? I didn't realized it happened that often. I was under the impression there were only a few cases.

How many people in the US have died from boxing?

RIP Tesshin Okada, did anyone see this fight? I really hope no one subjected him to a war during his pro-debut. I hope the officials and his corner did all they could to protect him.

This really sucks and we should honor the athletes that have lost our lives. At the same time we should not forget that boxing is far from the most dangerous sport.

Look at BASE jumping. 5% of all participants die. On their main site, they have a whole sub forum to honor their fallen it's that frequent.

Also, cheerleading, gymnastics, horse-riding are far more dangerous than boxing.

Always a sad thing to hear when a boxer gets seriously injured or dies, but it seems to have been happening quite a lot lately and mainly seems to be in the lower weight classes (in terms of deaths). Hopefully this breaks the stereotypes some have that this sport is only dangerous between the big, heavy hitters. Every man of any weight stepping into that ring is putting his life on the line and must be respected for that.

That's funny that you brought that up, that was my first thought after seeing him face down, for what felt like an eternity. After realizing that he would be ok, I had my doubts about ever seeing him In the ring again. It's a true testament to the warrior spirit, love of the sport and just pure determination to see a guy back In the ring after such a brutal KO.
